If he's scum, he likely doesn't want to thoroughly explain abilities or an ability at the risk of getting counterclaimed

If he's town, he runs the risk of endangering other town depending on what his role is, or he's a town aligned indie (which is why I'm okay with Flower for now) that has strong abilities that makes him feel comfortable enough not being lynched

Those are the possibilities I see atm, but this is based on assuming his motives and analyzing his lackluster reactions
