General & Others Wano and WCI: The disappointment is seeping in.

Imo Oda's #1 should have been writing a good defeat for Kaido and Big Mom, the antagonists he literally spent a decade hyping. Then build the plot around that instead of the opposite.

Kaido and Big Mom's fights are the most essential events in wano, the finale of the arc. You could honestly rush everything else and so long as you deliver on those fights, this arc could have been a 7 or 8/10. But it seems like Oda wanted to focus on everything but what was truly essential.

Oda had to off-screen 95% of Kid and Law vs Big Mom because he didn't know how they could deal with Linlin's ACoC, and so he decided to skip over it entirely to just avoid dealing with this issue.
Oda had to fucking murder the tension of Luffy vs Kaido by doing back to back defeats and power ups because he couldn't figure out any other way for Luffy to beat kaido 1v1.

And I feel like this could have been handled so easily. Just simply bring back rayleigh, and have him teach Luffy, Law, and Kid advanced haki before the war. Luffy goes into onigashima able to fight on par with Kaido, Kid and Law can 2v1 LInlin without Oda making Linlin look weak and incompetent.
Meme clearly wasn't supposed to be here this arc. He whole inclusion from start to finish has been a mess

Honestly, Oda should have made Zou longer, turned it into a training arc.

It would have been fine if he treated linlin like a real antagonist and made kid and law strong enough to deal with her. But he utterly butchered it by treating her like a clown and making Kid a laughing stock amongst the community for not actually KOing her.

In one fight, Oda did the impossible. He ruined both Kid and Big Mom, literally characters on opposite sides of the fight, by making them both look like shit.
Like people gave me so much shit for wanting Kid to have ACoC or wanting him to split the sky with Linlin, but it would have been so much better writing and would have made the conclusion of the fight so much better if it went down that way.

And Luffy would have still been super special and much stronger than Kid or Law, due to the Nika god fruit.

But big mom and Kid aside, it would have done so much if Oda made the major focus of the WCI arc prepping for kaido, instead of the shitty Sanji subplot we got.

I mean you are telling me that all of the scabbards knew ACoA(which tbh was likely a retcon)? They could have easily taught it to Luffy in Zou. Oda could have also had Luffy experience ACoC against Linlin. Have him be 1 shot by Linlin in WCI, then show off low level ACOC against kaido in act 1 when Luffy gets low diffed.

Then Luffy could be a sky splitter from the get go on the rooftop with awakening being his only mid fight power up in wano. So much more impactful if Oda did it this way.

One of my biggest problems with WCI was definitely the exploding handcuffs, it was the literal definition of disappointing. Like, anything would've been better than them just being fakes, and don't even get me started on the wedding cake mess lol. But I have faith that Oda will become Goda again during Onigashima

Not every chapter or every arc of a book (song/album - musician) series is going to be good/your favorite, but do you drop something you enjoyed for so long because of a few "meh" releases?

just my IMO: "awful" O.P is still loads better than, say, Fairy Tail in that fighting aside, the world &character building (art, too) is much more nuanced and better made.

I don't mean to consescend, I just find it odd how many essentially go "you weren't super awesome for 25 yrs non stop, you suck now and are dead to me". I take a hard pass whenever Eminem starts moping about how sad he is over not knowing if fans still like him, but still got & enjoyed MTBMB 1&2, for instance.

And my long rambling will end with, I hated WCi. I Love the "anime Disney themepark land on an Acid trip gone wrong" theme & setting, Kata vs Luffy, the rest was just boring & riddled with characters I don't care about.

Luffy was entertaining, and him wanting to burst out of a cake, at Big Moms hosting of a Wedding, with animals being clones of himself-while he laughs and says "it'll be funny" to a room of terrified individuals Is probably my favorite Luffy moment and one of my favorite in the series. THAT'S a Chad move, same with playing Jump Rope with a melodramatic Emo drunk Dragon - doesn't mean majority of those respective arcs wasn't a slog. I loved Gear 5, meh on a lot of Wano, but I still believe Oda is going to finish strong, if not amongst the strongest when all is said and done.

if oda is going to string fans along for 25 years, its only natural that he face harsh criticism when he butchers major plotlines that he built up for over a decade

Agreed, even though I enjoy the major arc (G5) and think it fits the narrative and has been shown numerous times, if you don't like it, that's cool too. I rambled and lost my point of the people doing kneejerk over the top "dropping this series because of a few things that have been half explained!". I also read O.P for a majority of the characters, so there is usually something I want to see resolved. *shrug* i guess I forget people have different media consumption outlooks.

my point of contention is that Oda's handling of the yonko fights

off-screening 90% of Linlin's fight and having her defeat herself by punching a bomb
spamming power ups in Luffy vs kaido and murdering tension by having luffy be defeated multiple times

is incompetent writing that utterly shits on years of build up and ruins enjoyment of OP going forward.

how can we have faith that Oda will execute any plot point well when he couldn't even deliver on the two most basic aspects of wano, the yonko fights.
