He was a good character
i don't think people realize that he was never gonna escape from mf.
The marines hardly used their full might. Only Akainu tried. Even if wb sacrificed himself and did a suicide quake bomb, people like Kizaru would have easily caught up with them, destroyed the ships and killed Ace regardless.
Yeah Ace was dumb and selfish for falling for a yo daddy joke. But that's his defining character flaw. If he had walked away after that, it would not have been in character at all.
He's one of the very few in op that has a realistic character flaw and actually suffers the consequences for that. That makes him a way real character than most of op.
I like Ace and his flaws way way way better than the gary stu retarded ace clone that is sabo.

You gave examples of football players attacking people inside the pitch with no real consequences or immediate danger on their lives or the lives of their loved one, this does not correlate to a battle scenario where things are actually at stake

Many of the WBP veterans heard what Akainu said but moved on and focused on the objective, are you calling Marco and Izou cowards, two men who walked into Marineford and Onigashima with bravery to save their comrades

Ace is mostly fine to decent, he serves his purpose, popping up twice before his execution. There’s some good angst there but otherwise Ace is pretty straight forward.
the best thing to happen to Ace tho is being wholly irrelevant Post Timeskip. We don’t see constant flashbacks of him that makes us lower our opinion of him. He’s not about to pop up next arc in a 7 chapter flashback and suddenly break character.

Yeah idk man, Zidane could've shoved his leg up Materazzi's and it still wouldn't pose any threat to his legacy even, let alone his life. Zidane at that point was bigger than the french national team anyway

It paints Ace's character flow well, especially when in the manga even Luffy let got of fighting Blackbeard in order to achieve the actual important objective.
And when you think about Ace guilt tripping for hours seeing his comrades fall to save his ass, and him doing what he did because of some cheap slander, it just shows immaturity, especially since it's against someone like Akainu.
