Questions & Mysteries What are the traitor's motivations ?

#1
It has been mentioned many times already that there could be a mole among the Kozuki clan's followers, possibly even one of the Scabbards given how easely the Beast Pirates were able of knowing Zou's location and of knowing that Raizo was here and that Kaido caught word of Oden and his scabbards' attack on him during the flashback.

But what could possibly be the motivations of this traitor if he/she really exist ? For what reasons could the traitor obey Kaido and Orochi ?

Could it be out of a honor debt ? Or rather because the traitor is from a family that was wronged and/or was ennemy with the Kozuki clan too ? Could he/she be forced to do that ? Other reasons ?

If there’s a Traitor amongst Oden’s aides (particularly the 9 scabbards), then I doubt the Traitor was planted from the beginning coz the 9 scabbards were 9 random kids that Oden took under his wing & gave a purpose in life.

So I’m thinking that one of Oden’s aides only decided to side with Orochi & Kaidou several years after they started serving under Oden.

In which case the only motives I can think of are:
1. Said aide is opposed to Oden’s ideals of opening Wano’s borders.
2. Said Traitor maybe felt Oden abandoned them when he chose to leave Wano to fulfill his dreams.
3. Said Traitor lost something important as a result of Oden leaving Wano when he did.
4. Said Traitor like the likes of Fukurokuju & the Wano folk, lost faith in Oden as a result of his ‘idiot lord’ act that carried on 5 years.

Pretty sure it was this. The traitor is Kiku & the something is Izo. If this turns out true, cant blame her. I'd betray him 2
:kriwhat:
I'd blame her. A lot. Izo stayed with Newgate by his own accord, per multiple sources such as Oden, Inu, Neko. Not saying she shouldn't miss him, but does that really warrant the death of your lord, the suffering of Wano for 20 years, the death of your lord's wife, the death of Hyogoro's wife and men, the attempted murder of your lord's children, etc? If Oda wants to go the sympathetic route, there are infinitely better motivations he could the traitor.

I’ve been saying Kiku roughly since the flashback began and it was confirmed that Izo not only was a member of the Scabbards, but eventually left Wano entirely. The motivations are clear, and I/several others have described them in greater detail elsewhere, so I won’t waste my time or any of yours. Unless that decrepit old Kurozumi bag who started all this is still hanging around somewhere, masquerading as someone we’ve met or a new character entirely (this would only be possible if the theories that the Mane Mane no Mi is the only DF that can exist in two places at once are eventually rendered canon), Kiku’s still my guess.

Thats so much worse. That just means Oden steered Izo toward his new (replacement) family while Kiku suffers from the mess Oden left

does that really warrant the death of your lord
This Lord
:odenugh:
Yea. Easily
the suffering of Wano for 20 years, the death of your lord's wife, the death of Hyogoro's wife and men, the attempted murder of your lord's children, etc?
Traitors could care less about any of that
Also Kiku's reactions dont add up. At this point most of the Scabbards are comfortable enough to call Oden on his crap, yet just its smiles from the person Oden kinda wronged the most

I've realised whoever it was allowed the old woman to get to momo as that's how the mane mane works you need to make direct contact with the person you want to impersonate

:seriously: Izo is a grown man by the time he left with Oden. He's capable of making decisions on his own. If Kiku can't respect his wishes, that only reflects poorly on her.

And based on what you're saying, shouldn't Izo be who Kiku is angry towards? Should it really be at the expense of your allies that did stay and help you and the rest of Wano?

Kiku might be the traitor, but she isn't gaining sympathy points from me if her motivations are as weak as the one you're suggesting.

I mean there are so many people it can potentially be.
The nine scabbards, but also Tsuru, toki and shinobu should be under consideration.
I mean at this stage we are assuming it's just one traitor who is the same between both the flashback and the present day. We know that the traitor relays info to kaido rather than orochi as well as managed to get access for the mane mane user to kid momo.
I'm ruling out denjiro because he isn't in contact with the present day alliance.
So there can be several reasons for betrayal in this story.
The first would be blackmail. So at this stage we only really know that this might work on 1 of the scabbards more specifically than others. Kinemon as he is married is a prime candidate. The others maybe could be blackmailed through threatening the whole of wano or zou but that would be a difficult feat to pull off.
The next way to convince someone to betray their team would be bribing. This would entail giving some benefit to the person that oden could not bestow. However from the story so far it does not appear as though any of the betrayal candidates would have gained anything post odens death. I mean I guess okiku was living without persecution but I wouldn't necessarily call that a benefit as much as not being detected. Also I suppose kaido/orochi could have broken their promise. Alternatively the bribe may have gone to denjiro but then again that would imply 2 traitors which is unlikely.
The third is that someone who never was on his side infiltrated his team. This is unlikely as the only person that this could reasonably be would be shinobu. Alternatively one of the original 9. May have been an enemy of the Kozuki family but we just dont have that info.
Now the final option and this is most likely considering we now see more of the picture is that someone lost faith in oden/was intentionally disillusioned from him/or felt slighted by him. This has already happened in the series with squardo. There are many ways this comes into play with oden. The fact that oden kept abandoning his destiny and his country until too late. The way he made the deal with orochi and let wano get worse. The way he dances in his undergarments whilst people were suffering. The history of bringing destruction to wano.
As well as this orochi may have very well been using the mane mane user similar to crocodile to make oden seem even worse than he was and as the followers of oden may not have known about the mane mane fruit as oden never told them about it they may have believed him. The only person who is immune from this argument is shinobu as she is likely the only person who knew the whole truth other than oden.

Well those are all the reasons I can think of for motivation of the traitor.
