General & Others What do you really consider "Bad Writing" in One Piece

#1
What is bad writing for you, and what do you REALLY consider bad writing by Oda, and not something he did that escaped your headcannon?? it doesn't have to be just about the Wano arc, in One piece in general. Some fighting, character development, narrative plot, anything.
I'm all ears for you:zorothink::zorothink:

Lmao making an entire arc about being better than your abuser/mother killer and not needing the approval and acceptance of such a bad parent

To making his entire character revolve around the fuckin guy and negating an entire arc worth of character development.

All for the shithead fans that wanted rs vinsmoke sanji germa fight. Fucking pathetic

For me it's faking up deaths.
Biggest offender is Pell, but I cannot even tell if it's the first time or only the first one that really hit me.
I don't need deaths in a shonen per se, and up to enies lobby it was quite nice, with Marineford actually killing characters for the first time.
But while Ace and Whitebeard die, Mister two is another one of the biggest offenders.
It's just like George of the Jungle

How bout I give an easy example.

In early Wano, Luffy, Zoro and Kiku saw Tama tame animals and Headliners with her DF power but thought nothing of it. In Udon, Luffy, Chopper, Kiku, Raizo and Kawamatsu saw Tama do it again but told nobody else for some reason. None of them thought it would be a good idea to tell their allies and/or stock up on kibi dangos when they're planning yo fight up to about 500 of them in a war.

Instead, they all waltzed into Wano unprepared while Tama randomly shows up in the war as a chilffhanger to save the day. That's a huge suspension of disbelief that makes no sense.

Force-feeding the audience instead of letting them make their own decisions about a character.

Oda is incredibly desperate for readers to believe that Loden is a great guy. Why? Because everyone and their uncle sucks his dick for no reason. Why does Denjiro cockride him to the point of giving himself plastic surgery when Loden died? No one knows. We’re never shown, we’re just supposed to accept that Loden is just that awesome. Then there’s the entire debacle of having Shinobu attempt to shame the citizens of Wano, and the audience by proxy, when they called him out on his garbage tier decision making. How about letting the audience actually think critically for themselves, independently evaluate Loden’s actions and come to the very reasonable conclusion that he should never have been put in charge of so much as a child’s birthday party, let alone an entire nation.

The only death fake out that got me disappointed was Pell. After that I just stopped caring. I'm not sure why he feels like killing a character isn't important in a story about "not playing little pirate games." It comes off very strangely because they explicitly talk about killing.

For me it’s the portrayal of Knockouts/going white eyed

When a character or two, are clearly outmatched and beatin unconscious then with some fairy tail bs, do they magically get up to attack the stronger opponents just SECONDS after being KO’d by them

Shit like that drives me crazy bruh. Which is it oda? Did thry lose or not?
Post automatically merged:

We know oda doesn’t kill so them surviving wasn’t a big deal but them getting up from an amped up and extremely powerful opponent who brutally attacked them while they were unconscious with little to no damage???? What the fuck???

Luffy getting curve stomped by Kaido while in Gear 4th than one week later being able to go toe to toe with him while in base and Kaido in his best form.

I hate powerscalling, but this is just too outlandish. Oda didn't care enough to organically get the characters where they needed to be before this arc. Now, for me at least, everything after this point is completely unearned.

Here's another. It's about Kaido sending COC users to Udon to break their spirits.

Kaido was said to kill Mingo if he couldn't provide him with SMILE anymore, along with saying he wants to kill Luffy and Law for destroying his SMILE business. When he finally had Luffy beaten, he chose to imprison Luffy in Udon instead in order break his spirit and turn him into a soldier.

That made absolutely no sense since Kaido should know how stubborn COC users are. There hasn't been the slightest evidence of Kaido succeeding with that process, and Yamato remained unbroken for 20 years. Kawamatsu isn't even a COC user and spent 13 years in Udon no problem.

Makes Kaido look like an ever bigger moron.

THIS. Even after this bullshit decision, I was still excited to see what Luffy would have to endure in the prison. The chapters leading up with him in the head bandages felt like there was gonna be some real change in Luffy going forward. But instead he just reverts right back to the same character the next chapter with gags riddling the prison portion. No hard times what so ever. The prison being used as a plot device to give Luffy a bullshit power buff just made it even far worse than I could imagine.

too much mystery but no conclusion
we already 25 years in one piece should oda start awnser some of the mystery like void century? introducing toki is a good gateway to at least some history in void century .
and about 3 ancient weapon, the ark , joyboy legacy, joyboy promise, actual lunar race that enel found in moon and their relation to lunarian race, enies lobby relation with skypiea, vegapunk df book etc etc
but oda add more n more mystery like awakening fruit,VOAT,sun god nika, become joyboy?, hell even sabo in reverie still not explained
too much mystery but so little answers ...

This is return makes Queen look like a bigger moron. He should know of all he crazy shit Luffy has done even to BM, but didn't give a shit. He unlocked Luffy's seastone cuffs for no reason and sat there watching, knowing Luffy is improving his COA. Also doesn't make sense why Queen was trying to kill Luffy when Kaido sparred his life to make him into a soldier.

Bad writting is retconning, forgetting elements you introduced at the story, giving asspulling powers up because yes. Things like that.

Examples:

Luffy getting mad for red beans but forgetting X-Drake destroyed Tama's village.

Kaido getting hurt by Momo's bite.

Luffy power up after being knocked out and Sanji's power up almost the same way.

Oda pretending Luffy to be the strongest but struggling with Apoo, Ulti, Yamato and fodders(Sanji and Jinbei helped him in the way to rooftop).

- dragging too much on fighting fodders

- too much battle against oppressive evil kings and lack of important battles for the sake of adventure or treasure/artifact hunt

- Luffy being plot restricted to do a fake struggle just to hype enemies and allies

- Luffy being reckless each time thus defeated multiple times by the same arc boss instead of maturing mentally, being more of a serious and visionary character who can recognize the difference in strength and experimenting during each fight, recognize the concept of war-sacrifice-emotional burden-focus-when to joke around and when to be no-nonsense etc

- Luffy copying the arc boss powers instead of just inventing his own which is sufficient to beat em like he should

- hyping the next lore but lack of focus to the each lore/place/creatures/cultures/character dynamics The Strawhats are in
