Now it's revealed that it's only 6 years ago that Shanks has been called a Yonko.

What did Shanks acquire 6 years ago until he got his Yonko status? Did he start working for Government 6 years ago?

If defeating Mihawk was the only requirement, then Vista would already become a Yonko himself. Yet he didn't. So nope, that's not enough requirement.

Maybe he was finally strong enough to have his revenge on the Lord of the coast.

Or maybe he defeated some borderline yonko figure like Shiki (maybe not since it is Luffy's doing yet I don't know if that is not canon to the sotry, probably), Silver axe or Captain John and that is also why they are retired or dead at this point.

When did the definition of defeat change? Based on your definition if I step in the ring with the current heavyweight boxing champion of the world I will be champion even if can't push him to become serious and he goes easy on me and postpone our fight to allow me to grow stronger instead of just quickly defeating me with overwhelming power. That's good to know. New champion coming.



The truth is Oda probably couldn't think of anything so he just gave him the title or it has something to do with his connection to the world government.

Lol i saw that last line coming the moment i read it was Topi post.

Most likely defeat some previous big shots.

Even beating 2 YCs doesn't qualify as becoming a Yonkou, so i guess Shanks also started gaining territories and allies. Made a name for himself with constant feats and skirmishes with other Yonkou crew to capture their territories.

Maybe there was another Yonkou beside em in the past, that got taken down by Shanks. Since Schibukai system was also made in to keep the balance with Yonkou so there originally could have been 4 from start.
If not Yonkou, it has to be notorious pirate of big callibre like Shiki, so he defeated him.
