Character Discussion What is Kuzan's Game now?

WG actually wouldn't spread news about fact that part of main Navy's power betrayed them and join someone with D. In name.
People missed the point but I didn't clarify it so it's w/e.

I was thinking more so like they would stress about it among themselves. You know some higher-ranking Marines and especially Gorosei who want the balance of the world to be top perfect.

They didn't care much about the fact that Kuzan left, they mentioned it once and didn't stress it. Kinda odd considering who he was in Marines and especially how strong he was.

Bro, imagine if Akainu got tired of the Gorosei and killed them one by one and commanded the WG/Navy being the supreme leader and declared war against the pirates ???

I think this would be the best outcome for Sakazuki and the start of a reinvention of the Navy with Akainu being defeated and Issho or maybe Aokiji taking the lead.

Damn,my man Kizaru will have his ass beated in EOS!
:josad:
a world government civil war is my favorite op theory :josad: it would be so sick. We could get Sakazuki versus the Gorosei

Well....Gorosei Gandhi would be a big deal for him but, if Loda wants, he can use plot armor for Akainu benefice!
:kayneshrug:

But anyway, i think it would be perfect for Akainu, he have potential to be one of best villains of all Shounens.
I was thinking that the fight would be perfect for Oda to show off the Gorosei powers(if they are strongish).

I think Kuzan has a different perspective on how to fulfill his justice. Evil to him might not be as black & white as it is for Akainu or the readers. I'm certainly hoping it's not as braindead as "defeat the Celestial Dragons," but I wouldn't be opposed to Kuzan wanting to dismantle the marines / rebuild them.
Rebuilding the Marines sounds interesting. Although if it's blatant "Muh Revo or Muh Double Agent" this will be boring as fuck.

Oda has a chance to do something cool here with Kuzan and I hope he goes all the way with it.

I can take "double agent" bullshit but only if Kuzan actually wanted to see a new perspective in life and let's say go and see for himself what's with the fuss regarding "Laugh Tale" all about.

Like you know, why pirates want to reach it so badly and on the other hand why WG wants to prevent it from happening ever again.

See, I don't think Kuzan has the same priorities as the Revos. He's a former admiral so his moral code isn't as uptight as theirs and last chapter showed off narrower world view being expanded by Teach.

I think we're far past the double agent theory too, he's not a marine by any current standards

@Seth @ConquistadoR do you guys think we'll see Kuzan interact with any admirals(not including Sakazuki)? I think an interaction with any of the current ones would be interesting. We know next to nothing about Borsalino and Kuzan's relationship, and a conversation between him and Aramaki would be funny lol, and it would be interesting to see how ice clashes with forest/light/gravity.

I'm wondering if Law vs BB and Kidd vs Shanks were/are happening in real-time or in a form of a flashback. If they happened sometime before Egghead maybe Kuzan is aboard the ship near Egghead so that would guarantee us a Kizaru/Kuzan interaction.

If not. I definitely think Kuzan is interacting with Fujitora or Ryokugyu. I'm especially looking forward to Kuzan/Ryokugyu interaction since Ryokugyu is a fan of how Akainu views things.

See, that's why I say that Fujitora is a hypocrite and fake hero type of an Admiral.

"Warlords" bad but he turns a blind eye on the slavery happening all over WG and his good buddy is a guy who adores Akainu and does things just like Akainu would.

So Kuzan and Fujitora interaction might be interesting too. Kuzan with a new perspective on life and Fujitora trying his best to paint himself as a Justice spreading Marine.

I do think that Kuzan will remain relevant till the very end

he ultimately seeks to know what the One Piece is and why it's been driving people to the extent that it has and thinks BB might be his best bet to fulfil that and yet has also entrusted Robin on doing that job after Ohara and Enies Lobby

It's going to be pivotal for him to at least be not too far away from when stuff's going to be actually revealed on Laugh Tale to give commentary/come to the realization of the type of message or picture that Oda is trying to paint with the entire theme of justice in the series.

and I definitely think Oda uses Kuzan with a lot of care for him to not be a part in all of this

I think this scene in particular is very telling about a lot of what's been motivating him

When we were introduced to Kuzan in the post timeskip at chapter 0699, Doflamingo asked Kuzan the question we all wanted to ask - what's Kuzan's Game now?

Oda even used Doflamingo to tell us that Kuzan isn't an aimless man.

"The face of a mere wanderer and that of a man with determination... they're quite different"

The popular belief among the fandom was that he was the secret captain of SWORD and he infiltrated Blackbeard's crew to undermine them down from the inside (like X Drake & Beast Pirates) but the latest chapters clearly established that

(1) SWORD is a well-known Marine organization and

(2) Kuzan isn't part of them, considering how he's fighting Garp.

The question of Kuzan being a Marine still has (almost) been put to rest.

The titular question though, is again posed even this chapter - through Blackbeard.

Kuzan clearly has some inner motivation for what he's working with the Blackbeard Pirates as the Tenth Titanic Captain.

Another important incident that shapes who Kuzan is, is the Ohara incident. We're again shown that Kuzan remembers it as a sad memory this chapter.

And again & again, we are being reminded that what the World Govt. has in store for Egghead is a fate worse than what Ohara suffered.

If Egghead turns out to be another Ohara-esque incident of mass destruction & censorship by the Government, i am sure that it will impact Kuzan's motivations & actions in the future, to make him take up fate into his own hands again, as he said.

So what exactly is Kuzan working to achieve? What would his future role be in the series?

--------------------------------------------

Personally, Kuzan seems set up to be one of the most interesting characters Oda has ever written.
Some traits I find common among complex & memorable characters are is that they are written to be going through circumstances which place them at both end of the spectrum of the World. This allows for Oda to show complex themes & ideals through the said character.

For example, take Doflamingo, a former Celestial Dragon who, by circumstances, was forced to relinquish his position and climb the ranks of Piracy which was juxtaposed beautifully with his younger Brother Rocinante becoming a Marine to stop Doflamingo.

A former high ranking Marine who left them due to his refusal to work under an extremist agenda (embodied by Fleet Admiral Sakazuki) and who is now working with Marshall D. Teach, an Emperor of the Seas, to pursue his own goals is a very similar set up & has huge potential.

Hopefully Oda pulls through with it.

I like how this entire thread just analyzed Kuzan's character then left the answer of the main point (his goal) up to us.

The culprits behind the Ohara incident, which is still hunting Kuzan, are none other than the nobles. So as corny as it seems Kuzan wants to reform the government, but is so determined that he wants the help of someone whose goals or principles won't get in the way. Teach offered him said freedom to accomplish his goal however he liked.

I also believe Kuzan knows about Xebec's intentions, if younger marines like Hina heard the name "Rocks" then Kuzan might know even more. Xebec was the closest man ever to dethrone World Nobles, and the amount of parallels he got with Teach wouldn't escape Kuzan's attention. Kuzan could be betting on the dark horse.

The part that got me curious is him mentioning a “friend” and a child (Robin) in Ohara incident to BB crew at the bar. He is refering to Saul who has ties with Dragon as it showed couple chapters back. The fact that he knew where they were made me wonder if it was planned to get her out of the Island safely before buster call.
He's a former admiral so his moral code isn't as uptight as theirs
He saved Luffy by making it look like he didn’t save him to stop Akainu from reaching him in the summit war. Why Luffy? He also did that to Robin and Saul. Even lets the Straw Hats go in his first appearance and was also father of Dragon’s mentor so he’s not the admiral type to follow their moral code.

Yea i just wanted to write my observations on Kuzan and start a discussion thread about his goals & motivations.

I agree, being Xebec 2.0 could very well be the case why Kuzan is betting on Teach now. This is a nice detail, i totally missed it.
