iirc, the prophecy said that the one leading the revolution wasn't yet born, hence he had to rule Shanks out obviously. It has little to do with potential, since Roger acknowledged they were too early too. Because it's not about potential as in battle power, but just being the Messiah that is reborn, who was worshipped as a god by various nations, including Elbaf. Obviously Shanks cannot meet that criteria. On the other hand, Roger didn't have "faith in his unborn son", it was just wishful thinking that his son will be the one the prophecy talks about.

Rogers will was just going around and having adventures and having a good time. Clearly inherited by Luffy
And not by Shanks. Shanks is not "the mid gens roger" despite what parallel bros claiming to be that struggle to read the shounen manga until a sbs or a character in universe clarfies.
Infact his passiveness is as much antiroger/antiluffy as it goes, he acts way more of a marine one thinks about it him being even stated to maintaining the status quo

I don't know about Shanks carrying Roger's will lol he's just make sure that he fulfils the promise of making sure that the man Roger is waiting for is the one who finds the OP since he acknowledges him finding the OP won't necessarily save the world, we still don't know his complete agenda

Using a joke Roger made while drunk about wanting his son to succeed his legacy the same way people want their sports teams to win to slander Shanks... lol, Shanks has the most similarities to Roger out of anyone and is stated to be the most free man on the seas currently. Shanks is the Roger of this era and this is obvious lmfao. You clowns want Shanks to be irrelevant when people who know the ending have said he's one of the most important characters, "insult to Roger" my ass, you're just an hate-infested moron

Look at the way Buggy thinks about him lmao it's obvious Shanks is the Roger who know he was too early and is helping to find the version of Roger who can complete Roger's will
I think the issue is that Shanks doesn't have the will of D, so how can he be the new Roger?
Also, Luffy is the one who shares Rogers dream(whatever it is), and Shanks and Rayleigh both recognized that this was something those two shared, but no one has said Shanks shares that dream.

Lmfao @GalaxyLevelShanks can't even comprehend that Shanks was nothing but a delivery service for ace. That's why shanks was in the east blue.
Roger never once thought shanks was the one or he'd not have had a last minute son.
The Roger pirates were never told about Ace, that doesn't make sense

He's the Roger of this generation in the sense he's making sure the future Joyboy comes and fulfils the 800 year old prophecy. He's carrying Roger's will to make sure he fosters the future Joyboy. So the Roger who isn't the PK, kind of like how Sasuke was the shadow hokage iykwim

Hold on though, that wasn't Rogers goal as a pirate, unless he did know about Joyboy or something, his dream was the same secret one that Luffy created as a kid.

I heavily doubt Roger and Luffy share the same secret dream. Roger fulfilled his dream of conquering the grand line (and whatever secret thing he had possibly) but after finding the one piece, he wanted the next Joyboy to come so he gave Shanks the job of making sure he does and Shanks is doing that + maintaining the world balance so it happens

He did, Yamato confirmed it.

What Shanks told Rayleigh about Luffy should also be the secret dream, since Roger never wanted to be the "pirate King" as a goal and that was just something the newspapers called him
