Tobi from Naruto does a good job in filling the Aizen niche while being an active presence in the story and not sitting in a throne murmuring about “all according to my plan.”

Its just something that makes them either unique , likeable , how funny they are .

I like when a character has some high morale example Fujitora , and I respect length certain characters are willing to take for others example Whitebeard and how he treats his sons.

For villains its their design , their IQ and how badass they are some examples are Thanos from marvel and Madara from Naruto.

For females its simple , pretty face and size of boobs and ass.

It’s very telling that the only time Aizen is interesting is when he’s not the focal antagonist (Soul Society Arc & TYBW). I’d hazard a guess and say Aizen’s one of the biggest problems to Bleach’s story telling.

A bland and charismatic less villain who is more lethargic than grandpa on a mobility scooter is about as mid as it gets

It depends, but I usually gravitate towards characters with a strong personality and backstory/lore
Hence why some of my favorite characters are people like Franky, Doflamingo, Guts, Punpun, Hiei etc.
I like characters that have a lot of depth and development.
