Kuhn (Tower of God)
Acting as if Tower of God is not dogshit?
Also picked the edgiest characters...

Its satire, yes?

characters that struggle without being jokes.

Joseph Joestar has weird antics, yet he is no joke.
Ivankov is a joke.

While trying not to post hoc justify the characters I tend to like with an archetype, I can really only think of the category of "battle hungry" or "really durable" being something that covers the majority of them.

OP:
Zoro
Dellinger

Kengan:
Wakatsuki Takeshi
Kure Raian (Obviously)
Kanoh Agito

Bleach:
Kenpachi (obviously)
Grimmjow

Honorable mention to Thorkell from Vinland saga despite not being a massive fan of the overall series.

For One Piece visuals play a bigger role than anything else. Oda knows how to draw impactful character introductions with small snippets of characterization to really get you invested and want more. Blackbeard has always been my favorite character since I first saw his introduction as a kid. The Gorosei had me speculating and gave off presence just on a few panels of them sitting. The Admirals have been given bits and pieces slowly leading up to a satisfying whole. A lot of the One Piece experience is waiting around for your favorite characters to do something, sometimes even when you're a fan of one of the Strawhats. I caught up with Dressrosa and reading that arc made the non-present Strawhats legitimately feel like they didn't exist anymore.

For other series', it's usually strong characterization first and foremost. Just keeping it to manga, Kurapika from HxH and Funny Valentine (SBR) are two examples of characters who grabbed me the most.

Attitude and strength + rep
Number one 1.

1 - Akainu - Vegeta - Beerus - Whitebeard - Guy sensei - Itachi - Chrollo - Killua’s father (forgot the name) - escanor - takumara (hajime no ipod) - Yami (black clover) - Ou Sen (kingdom) - Zoro

What do these guys have in common? Other than being badass they are all like mean, ruthless types of characters, most revolve around “Negative” wether it’s power or attitude and they all have reputation being respected in-verse.

I’m a fan of the characters that the protagonists would either really fear because of how powerful they are, or if the character is admired by the protagonists himself for being a kickass.

I like complex, layered characters, which are interesting for observation in various situations.

I gotta agree with @Sir Yasheen on the "a little goofy with hidden depth" type, as I also like Urahara, Sanji, Yami, Shika. Although I don't like Luffy that much, and he does fall into this trope, guess there's too much of a chosen one aura about him that makes me look elsewhere. I also like the opposite type, "serious characters with a funny side to them" like Law and Robin. I also like villains with principles/honour, that Grimmjow's stunt with getting Orihime to heal Ichigo so that they can both fight without any handicaps made him my favorite Espada (alongside Nel who has both funny and serious sides).

Visually character design is important as well, although it's more important in mangas like HxH and OP where you get a ton of variety as opposed to, say, Bleach, where you get "same 6 faces" so basically every character looks cool.

Aizen is top tier anyone that doesn’t love him I have questions for.
I don’t like Aizen
Only in SS Aizen was dope after that meh

I don’t know if I have a real trope

I guess I like daddy’s more than children/students
And relatable characters, characters that feel real
I like characters that have something to tell. Only fights or power is boring to me

As I grew up I couldn’t stand MC in shonen anymore (but as a kid i, only Luffy because he was hella fun and badass pre skip before falling straight into the MC trope

obviously design and powers are factors too
A bit of trolling can also be a plus

Like for OP :
- Fisher Tiger
- Noland
- Kizaru
- WB
- Marco
- Sanji

Bleach :
- Kyoraku
- Gin
- Ulquiorra
- Urahara

JJK :
- Nanami was the best
- Mahito
- Geto

MHA :
- Endeavor
- Destro JR
- Twice

etc etc

Imo, I prefer female characters more than males because they are less well-known and underrated in general.

I like strong and badass female characters with specific characteristics, but them being well written is my most preference. Them being hot and thick are secondary for me.

The best archetypes of female characters for me are anti-heroines. Basically the female characters that doesn't have a good morals/doing things that heroes wouldn't do, but are not necessarily evil.

For examples, Ubel from Frieren, she's my favorite in the series due to her nonchalant personality and calm demeanor, but she is insane in the head in the sense that she would not hesitate to kill anybody if she needed to. And she's also very interactive and cheeky which are appealing characteristics for me.

That's why y'all see most of my favorite characters in fiction are usually females.

Ooh, I love badass female characters. Frieren is quite badass herself (and quirky!) if you ask me.

Revy from Black lagoon, Mereoleona from Black Clover, Yoruichi from Bleach, yes queens!

Too sad OP doesn't really have such characters. I kinda liked Yamato for being a strong female character, but....

Problems is that OP female characters either got the classic "Sakura" or "Strong but being a plot device" types. Which is sad.

Revy and Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop luckily are characters from Seinen genre which treated most female characters fairly well.

Mereoleona and Yoruichi are also two characters that breaks the "weak female characters" trope so that's good.

It's just varies from author to author I guess.

Faye is amazing! And I actually also like Ed from Cowboy Bebop as well. Ironically, Julia is probably the least interesting character to me.

Yeah, it's not that easy to find a good female character in shounen, and there still are some interesting characters who are not necessarily physically strong but very cool nonetheless. I quite liked Elie from Rave Master and Temari in Naruto.
