Powers & Abilities What narrative sense does it make that Kaido is currently the strongest?

This is not a denial of the title but I wonder what is the point of Oda giving the title of strongest to Kaido after Shirohige's death.

If Luffy defeats him in this saga, what will be the point of fighting against a weaker enemy like Sakazuki?

Why not give the title of strongest to Sakazuki or Shanks (who will be defeated by Teach) if these are more distant enemies?

Parallels with Blackbeard taking down Whitebeard. Both take down a World’s Strongest Yonko, both can’t do it entirely by themselves, but while Blackbeard does it in especially despicable circumstances Luffy’s at least fighting up front like a man.

Might also tie with Kaido‘s backstory of being a failed Joy Boy. All the power he’s amassed, becomes stronger than everyone else, but there’s still something lacking in him that doesn’t allow him to achieve what he wants.

And with that it then goes to him wanting to die, which is made more effective by him being the strongest living thing.

Because he will fight the weaker guy Akainu alone and not with help of 14 other people. Pretty simple, dont ya think?

That he's the king of onis, that's the whole narrative; of course Oda will go and say he's the strongest, haven't you guys ever read a traditional Japanese tale like Wano is supposed to be?

If you want an in-verse reasoning, Kaido is established while Teach is growing as a pirate, Sakazuki was recently promoted and arguably became more powerful (yet I don't see why anybody would address it, too early and too much of a Government dog) and Im is unknown.

Like Blackbeard was supposed to be weaker than Kaido?
The blackbeard called kaido a monster. (Blackbeard with two fruits.)
Everyone knows that BB has two fruit powers, and Kid and Killer still defined kaido as more powerful.
And as if that wasn't enough, who is being cited by the author in SBS as the strongest is kaido and not Blackbeard.

I'm not against the idea of Blackbeard being the strongest possibly in the future, but you need to forget about this story that the next villain will always be on such a huge pedestal compared to the previous ones, Crocodile was the first Shichibukai to fall by Luffy's hands, and In Marineford with no plot armor involved, Crocodile was fighting Doflamingo and Jozu, one of them was a villain that would be inserted 2 years later for Luffy to defeat, and Crocodile was not defeated by either of them.

And that's not why I'm going to put Croco = Doffy, we need to analyze the amount of effort required to defeat a certain character.
But if there's one thing I have no doubt about, it's that the 4 emperors of the sea are beating akainu.

The point of fighting Sakazuki is to establish Luffy as a great pirate and a solid threat to marines imo, not to surpass him anymore.

And also Luffy must fight against Blackbeard who's gonna be even stronger than Kaidou and Xebec, and finally Imu who's gonna be the most powerful existence in entire history. So its only natural to give Luffy the Strongest title since has to tackle two gods, an even more superior hurdle, after this.

Kaido is a Dragon. And the dragon is the strongest creature in the world. It's a general term.

Like for example in marineford folks said whitebeard stopped the strongest slash in the world but it's not that (kaido) is the strongest attack Mihawk has (\kaido is the strongest character) but rather that Mihawks slash (dragon race) is the strongest in general
