He was probably off getting one of his numerous captures or defeats. It would be fitting if he was getting beat up by Whitebeard after provoking him in some way.
It would be funny if Kaido returned to see what Ace had done and went to tattle to the Gorosei that "I heard from my daughter that this Ace guy is the son of Roger."

Helly everyone, in the last chapter we see Yamato saying her father and all top members(most like calamity and flyer) going out of wano for a expedition.
Kinda strange that nobody Questioning about this text line, for me it is a huge information and it could be a big hint for later.
Usually we see Kaido beeing alone travelling in new world or doing his job, we know from Big mom(similar to kaido crew) that her childrens don´t meet each other for several years(Sweet commanders), everyone in wano has his own territory with Jack leading Kuri,Queen leading Udon and most like also King somewhere else.
Why Kaido assemble only his calamity and flyers? What was this expedition, why it was so important that he need to assemble all his strongest members?
For a war? Yamato would mentionend it that Kaido rather going for a war but that wasn´t the case. So the question open up why Kaido leaving wano in first place with his best members?

Have you guys realised something, if Ace wanted to, he could've taken over Wano there and then 4 years ago.
Yup. Ace could've walked straight into to Flower capital and burned Orochi's ass and liberated Wano... for a few days... then Kaido would return... and thunder bagua him.
Anyway, what I want to ask is, why did Kaido leave Wano this defenseless? What is so important that he could leave his home base to be potentially taken over by just a rookie tier guy like Ace.
Did he go wage war on Whitebeard or shanks or someone that he required all the good fighters?

1. Plot, because if Kaido there he would be dead or even join Beast Pirates.
2. Kaido and the calamities searching for another "strong groups/crew" because we only knew X-Drake join the beast pirates because of his mission and we dont know about how the other flying six decided to join the beast pirates.

That was indeed a big deal for a Yonko to take all his big fighters for a expedition. Imagine the pant shitting whenever someone spotted them on the sea or land. Oda casually dropped it off like it was a plot convenient for Ace not fighting Kaido but there has to be a bigger picture. Yonko leaving their territory itself is a big deal let alone with all their Top Guns. We know what he isn't doing though;
- He wasn't preparing for war. Navy would be on high alert and also with whom..??
- Not searching for Road Poneglyph, he doesn't need all those forces for that.
Maybe Oda gave us already the Solution to this Question in the same Chapter.
