General & Others What was left for Garp to do as a marine? Should he have just left with Dragon? Am I the only one not satisfied with his interaction with Dragon?

Marine - His top students were Kuzan and Koby, one Admiral and one future Fleet Admiral. But he also influenced God knows how many thousands of other Marines who today are VA, Rear Admirals, Lieutenants, Captains and so on.
Alternative routes
Revolutionary - Nope. Lacks Dragons patience, too hot tempered.
Pirate - Perhaps. His strength alone was around Roger and WBs level so he could essentially have become the Pirate King. It would have been a huge loss to the Marines, no one except perhaps Akainu has reached his level since. Is he as charismatic as Roger or Luffy? Judging from how the Marines view him, not too far off. Xebec was right, this would have been a very viable route. He wouldn't have to bother with office politics.

Oda just went "wouldn't it be cool if Luffy had a goofy grandpa in the navy" and then when the story went forward and the government and navy's evilness kept on escalating, he thought he needs to justify Garp's presence in the system, but when you are the genius that thought he's cooking with Oden, we can't expect much.
In reality his reasons are great because he is doing 2 things actually :
1. Protecting normal folk from criminals ( pirates are just one form of criminals even in one piece universe )
2. Protecting common soldier from corrupted leaders and celestial dragons.
Even in real life there is not president /leader outthere who is not corrupted and would do a lot of things to remain on power for next 4 - 6 years when next elections come. Normal soldier works do feed his family , with majority of them being there to protect others from criminals and because they are patriots. Normal soldier in 99 % chances wont ever see his presiden / leader in his life, yet he will be forced to carry on his orders , but that does not make him himself corrupted or bad person.
Because of his leader / goverment greedy nature sometimes normal soldier will be forced to throw away his life or do bad things he would never do on his own . Garp is there to protect normal marine from such things.
