Just watched this, a lot better than I expected and a lot better than other escape room movies, but it only partially felt like an escape room movie too I guess:
Like Bullet Train, it has a dark humour ending which I really enjoyed. The film has a nice tone of dark comedy but it takes a bit too long to setup the game, although its very character and story focused, which makes up for it too. There's a surprisingly decent plot in this, not original but not terrible either, far from it.
The actors were good, especially the main actress. I was pretty much crying for her in one scene near the end, it was very convincing and tragic, I won't spoil it but its something that is hitting way too close to home for me lately and made it hit harder too naturally. The actress absolutely delivered in that scene, nailed it entirely.
Cinematography was fantastic too. The director did a spectacular job too, I really loved his style with this. Using photos as a way to "time warp" into flashbacks was an excellent touch. Reminds me of the 1st Life is Strange game at least. Visually, it was a fantasically designed and executed film, just a real treat for the eyes.
I was hoping it would be more puzzle heavy, like a typical escape room and it being compared to Jumanji and Escape Rooms left a lot to be desired, especially when it was more like Trivial Pursuit or something, idk.
Gatlopp: A Hell Of A Game - I give it a 8/10 happily. 7/10 at worst. I definitely recommend it naturally.
I also tried to watch the Snowpiercer film recently after watching the entire series so far and unlike the tv series, I really hated the movie so far, I could not watch anymore of it than I did already and vastly prefer the series, which I enjoyed way more, even with some major lows/flaws it has.
