Honestly you could make a case for the #2's considering how prominent of a role Zoro has and how good of an antagonist Katakuri was as well. Rayleigh/Marco also play great supporting roles, and Sabo & Shiryu are going to be some greatness.

Warlords are just hard to beat though, Jimbei, Croc, Moria, Mihawk, Boa, Kuma, and especially DOFFY. Weevil is also going to be interesting and I guess since Blackbeard and Law were both warlords as well, they're just too stacked when it comes to great character writing.

Honestly bruh Aces characterization is one of the rare times Oda succeeded

Why do you think Sabo is better written?
Here's my opinion on Ace first bruhz:

Ace gets introduced in Alabasta as Luffy's older brother, they get a small interaction of hello and introduction to the crew then goodbye. -- He has a 1 off fight with Smoker which doesn't lead anywhere long term.
- He spends majority of his time chasing after Blackbeard on cover stories, at this point cool he's a lil character that pops up as the series goes on in side stories.
- Then bam post-ennis lobby we have the fiasco with him and teach. He gets more build up as the "older brother" for Luffy where he stands up for Luffy against Teach. So his character finally starts to feel like the "older brother".
- After that he turns into an emo turd the next time we see him. All throughout the war he's an emoturd, until Luffy gets to him. Then he becomes tolerable akin to his alabasta self... and few chapters later becomes a straight up dumbfuck.
- The flashback that happens post MF adds actual depth to his already dead character which is only reason I put "to mediocre".

As a manga reader I never connected with his character and just when I thought I would care about his character during marineford he does dumbass things. Oda didn't do a great job in making him a solid older brother, a good comrade or a good son/grandson.

For Sabo to keep it very short:

Sabo is quite the opposite. Oda's taken a lot of care in writing up Sabo. He first introduces Sabo as another old brother, but with a different personality & a very unique background story compared to the typical shit we've with poor people struggling. He decides to leave his home and chase his dream after trying his best to save his brothers the day before. Gets shot up by the Celestial Dragons. There's more depth in his backstory.

Then we're introduced to him in Dressrosa, he's pretty much the same Sabo we were introduced to in the flashback, still got his unique character design with the fancy outfit (unlike that generic shit Ace had). His fighting style with Haki/Dragon claw is sick. Then you add the mera mera combo to his haki style, my lord is fucking badass with that pipe incorporation. Except he now bears responsibility towards the people of the world who aren't privileged, who suffer at the hands of tyrants. He still keeps his calculating personality rather than simply rushing into shit like his other two brothers.

He's also part of the most well written faction by Oda, the Revolutionary Army. In which he thematically fits in like a puzzle piece, and enhances the purpose of the Revolutionary Army, rather than just keeping it stagnant. His rise as the Flame Emperor and becoming a figure of worship to the normal civilians of one piece world which empowers revolutions is just more interesting than any pirate story going on right now for me.

Only Bege and Law are well written supernova tbh. The rest are subjective.
I still find Supernova quite interesting as a group, I remember being hyped when they were first introduced.
Let's go through the members list:
- Luffy - I'm mostly neutral towards Luffy, he has cool moments, he has shite moments, but overall he's fine as a character, liked him more before the Nika reveal tbh. Not really fair to compare him to the rest as he's MC
- Zoro - I am between neutral and liking Zoro, he's a little boring to me, but he does have the coolest moments in this manga. Also a bit not fair comparison tbh.
- Blackbeard - I love to hate him :)
- Bege - I didn't like him much before WCI, but now I want more of him! pretty damn cool character
- Law - I like Law, his flashback was really good, and if he didn't have his own crew, I'd even see him as a SH material
- Bonney - I used to like her a little more before Egghead, but I'm curious of what Oda has for her, there should be more and I might change my opinion again
- Kidd - I'm not his fan, but he is cool as a character
- Killer - I actually started to like him more after Wano, his fight against Hawkins was quite a nice feat
- Apoo - nah, dislike
- Hawkins - didn't live up to his hype for me, liked him more before Wano
- Uroge - was never his fan, but let's see if there will be any more for him in the story
- X Drake - even though he was a bit lackluster in Wano, I actually quite like X Drake as a character, his connection to Koby, and hope to see more of him!

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Supernova fanboy. Them and Warlords are my favorite groups. With Yonko and Admirals being second.

But narrative wise, I picked out Law and Bege because they are more fleshed out as a character.

Yes, I agree, as it's not fair to compare Luffy and Zoro to the rest, Law and Bege do stand out the most.

I kinda like X Drake as well, sad he was a bit lame in Wano, still hope there will be some great moments for him in the future.

I really think they are all good, including Kaido and Moriah and Big Mom that many hate their stories since they sucked or didn't live up to the hype.

IMO, it is all part of their personality which also grants them their weaknesses.
