Forgot all about this. The manga had this as a pretty solid scene but the anime makes Shiryu out to be the baddest guy in Impel Down
Kudos to the animators of this scene. The music, the background, the voice actors flawlessly captured the sinister and evil nature of Shiryu.

He was in fact the baddest guy on Impel down! It was said in the manga that Magellan had less experience than Shiryu and thats why Shiryu was more deadly than Magellan.

No order:

Blackbeard - you knew immediately he was going to be a very important character, his Jaya scenes were something else

Kaido - for the most hyped intro

Big Mom - for the creepy/disturbing intro in FI as well as WCI

Mihawk - first time in the series seeing one of the strongest characters displaying the huge gap in power between them in early series

Kaido, hands down, has the best intro for a character in OP.

No, Shiryu was considered more deadly because Magellan was mostly inactive—they're considered equally strong though.

I am aware of the translation but it made no sense. Magellan was a vice-warden even 2 decades ago and experience hardly makes a difference when you both have decades of it. Inactivity is actually a major issue for him. He only works for about four hours a day, which is what some other translations say is the reason why he's deemed less dangerous and it makes perfect sense.

You work twice the hours over two decades = you have twice the experience :pepecafe:

As cool as this was, Shiryu wanted no smoke with Magellan, he lied to him and was legit hiding from him when he started cutting the video snails, plus Magellan released Shiryu knowing full well he could put him back in his cell.

The portrayal implies Magellan >= Shiryu at least.

You have to think of how Shiryu operates. Everyone doesn't fight head on like Luffy/Zoro. Shiryu is deceitful and dont hesitate to stab from the back. He had the his antidotes ready for Magellan. He called the Blackbeard pirates "rash and unprepared", i.e. he fights his battles fully prepared. He was probably hiding his presence for an opportunity to strike down Magellan from the back. His antidotes definitely played a major role when Blackbeard pirates beat the shit out of Magellan and almost killed him later.

I agree, they're more or less equals by hype but still Magellan >= Shiryu if I had to pick one over the other, because Magellan was confident he could control Shiryu if he needed to, and Shiryu made absolutely sure to never run into Magellan.

I agree but the whole ID is under Magellan's control so you won't just be dealing with him if you go against him. If I were Shiryu, I would do everything in my power to avoid Magellan even if I can take him out.
