And it would all go over well if Zoro didn't kill him in the end but had sufficient screen time to address these things. Or a generally larger purpose within the story. At Thriller Bark Sanji made a point to mention how it would make Luffy feel if he found out Zoro threw himself in as a sacrifice for him. On the rooftop, he pays no attention to Zoro's injury and ends up getting saved after goofing around and eating Ragnarok. Turns out that Luffy would never actually give a shit what happens to Zoro, and that's bad storytelling. ZKK is just a smokescreen of an argument for that.
