Know what? Thinking about it in context of the actual cover story, you are totally right! He'd celebrate Brook's appearance/name. The question is was he doing for 50 years only to come back now? Is he more important than we think? Is Oda trying to make Brook's dream more signficant?

I think his motive for reentering the Grand Line will be that Brook started making a name for himself as a rockstar during the timeskip. Previous to that, maybe guilt at leaving the Rumbar Pirates, apparently to their death, causes him to feel unworthy of meeting Laboon? Something along those lines, anyway. Then he sees Brook, realises he's alive(ish), and goes to wait for him with Laboon before Yorki himself passes away, being pretty old himself now.
