Who’s more likely to beat shanks?
Personally think the strawhats beating them and proving they surpassed them is more important than shanks being a hype tool for teach and his crew

The logic that Shanks solely exists to be a hypetool for Teach has to be one of the most ridiculous claims Ive heard in this manga. He has existed nearly 140 chapters before Blackbeard was even referenced as a concept in the story. Blackbeard himself isnt ever shown in any early drafts or Romance dawn iterations. But you know who was? Boa Hancock and other shichibukai. Garp (who is not nearly as important to the story as Shanks or Blackbeard). Most of the strawhats. So to claim that Oda's ultimate goal for Shanks is a Blackbeard offscreen or hypetool (right after he just used Law and Kid for that) is frankly ridiculous.

There is nothing, narratively, that supports the idea. People use weird shit like Shanks is the "Dumbledore" or "Jiraiya" of One Piece when he quite literally is not Luffy's mentor whatsoever (thats Rayleigh and even earlier in his life after Shanks left, Garp) and more a manipulator of events.

But what do I know.

Luffy and shanks reuniting (along with usopp and yasopp) is one of the most hyped up reunions in the series. Shanks and his crew being wasted on Blackbeard is pointless and does nothing for either character

Blackbeard beating Shanks doesn’t mean it ends in his death. At this point Blackbeard has Garp and taking Shanks hostage is just adding fuel to the fire. The Blackbeard pirates have turned Ace in, attacked the Revs base, captured Garp, and could take Shanks. Just about everyone in Luffy’s life outside the crew Blackbeard has targeted.

His father, Garlic Fingerland will beat up Shanks. Note he never goes home and when he does it's incognito. Something serious to the level of Sabo's exclusion must have happened.

I think BB for at least 2 reasons: BB by beating and killing Shanks will attain Luffy hatred (and supposedly the reader hatred too but I doubt that lol) and also Luffy actually can not take him, his role model, down because it will stain his good guy aura.

Oda won't give middle finger to the set up. Even as children it was setup.
They will fight and interact, I just don‘t think Shanks will die to BB. Shanks has a high chance of interacting with Imu, he also has a connection to celestials. He seems to know about joyboy shit as well so that might be part of the reason why he didn’t go for One Piece earlier. He was waiting for nika to awaken

Shanks is oda's representation within the show on top of being his favorite character, i rlly have a hard time seeing shanks serving as hypetool.

More likely to have him being the final villain.
