Because there is a chance Twitter might become less retard and woke. There will still be trash people like that but maybe after some time you won't get banned or tried to be canceled cause you insulted some basement incel with no life who spends time on Twitter talking about the world as if he knows something valuable from his basement.

I don't care personally, but charging to keep that tick on the twitter account seems bs. Like how is that gonna stop bots, people will do even more accounts as majority of people wont give a fuck to give a single cent for that.

It's kinda not in the long run. The purpose of the blue tick is to verify actual users from fakes as you know. By making it purchasable for anyone, that's gone. Any fake and bot can get it now. And when something special becomes common place, it's gonna lose it's value and novelty.
So, while this may make him money on the quick time, it will diminish Twitters value because bots and advertising accounts are gonna be filling up Twitter soon. That would lead to users dropping Twitter sooner or later. That's not good if he wants to keep Twitter and make any profits from it.
But he probably doesn't care. He has so much money that he can do what he wants. The life of a multi billionaire.
