Questions & Mysteries Why are some people so hesitant to criticize One Piece?

Because everyone is critizing One Piece, and people downplay it how many people do it.
One Piece is full of faults, but I don't spend my time finding all its faults, because ultimately a manga/anime is meant to be enjoyed, and I never understand why people want to ruin it for themselves.

I look at One Piece as entertainment once a week, doesn't take too much of time, then I go on with my life.

My theory is that those people are not « fans of One Piece » but their are fans of « being fans of the best manga ever ». They are fans of what it it says about them.
So if you dare to say that One Piece is not perfect you are basically saying that they are shit and it is unbearable to them. Thus the massive backlash to any criticism.
This ! Braindead casuals have made it their identity to be a One Piece fan. Thus attacking One Piece is attacking their identity.

It's classical fanboyism.
Xbox vs Playstation was one of the first to appear widespread on internet, One Piece is just the biggest manga hence the biggest fanboys.
Just look at fan clubs of Assmirals or Zoro, these people behave like ravaging psychos.
It's just primary school syndrome showing in adults, people that have pathological attachment to fiction/football teams/religions/political parties and become agitated when you criticise them.

Not to get too political, but I think a large part of it is that, frankly, a sizeable chunk of One Piece’s adult male audience are emotionally unstable soyboys/manchildren who heavily overlap with hyper online progressives who will call you a Nazi if you don’t agree with all of their opinions. I’ve noticed that a lot of the more masculine-coded series like JJK have fanbases who don’t give a shit if you criticize Gege’s writing
