He basically joined the shichibukai so that he wouldn’t get pestered by weak marines anymore.

As a shichibukai he can roam freely and fight anyone he wants, when he wants. Then he can go home drink wine and chill as if he didn’t just slaughter 100’s of pirates during the day.
