It is not so cut and dry. I do not have VIZ on hand, pardon using a lesser translation. Sanji gallantly sped into battle with the intention of removing Kaido's strength. However, Pageone returning for combat when the war for Wano is in its infancy would undue his vow. Hence, Sanji's little fib.
The purpose for battling Pageone was not to injure the headliner, but to remove him for the large battle. If Sanji cannot do that after giving his word, Sanji's word is trash.

You established that PageOne just wasnt out permanently. Sanji didnt lie about anything. He isnt in control of whether or not a person recovers from their injuries.
Did Kaido lie about Udon being able to break Luffy and Kidds will? No. He fully believed it would have happened eventually. It just simply didn't happen.

Why are you insistent on referring to Sanji's battle with Pageone was anything but a failure? His pledge was not to defeat the headliner for a pair of weeks, but to keep Pageone out of any future battles. Hence, Sanji's little fib.
Yes. A lie has a negative connotation, often times reflecting base desires to deceive your fellow man. Sanji did not make his proclamation with such intent. But he did so with a certainty that Pageone would be incapable of causing havoc to the Alliance. His inability to follow up on that is a personal failing of his.
Hawkins replaced Page one in the mission. And Neither Hawkins or drake ever mention that page one was defeated and not even one citizen mentions that a top man was defeated. And page one suffers no consequences for his supposed defeat yet we know guys like Killer were sent to be executed for failing.
