General & Others Why does Luffy have favoritism as a captain?

#26
A captain is supposed to love his crew equally but its clear Luffy only has love in his heart for the monster trio and Nami.

In FMI, Luffy only trusted Sanji and Zoro with sending Big Mom a message

In WCI, Luffy handled Sanji way diffrent than hes handled any other crew member leaving the crew, he never told Robin, "I cant become pirate king without you!"

He hardly ever talks to his crewmates, in fact i cant even remember the last time he spoke to Franky

Thats not a sign of a good captain
Because you don't understand the manga or the author.

Luffy does loves everyone equally. Oda put a good effort in pre timeskip to have all the crew interacting with each other equally and not have a Sasuke x Hinata interaction.

But post timeskip Oda slowly lost his writting abilities.

I don't know what you mean by trusting monster trio to give Big Mom a message.

Each person had a different reason to leave the crew. Nami only took advantage of the crew because she needed to save her hometown. Usopp left the crew because he is dumb and selfish. Robin left the crew to protect the crew. Sanji also left the crew to protect the crew.

The ones leaving the crew to protect something they need to ask Luffy for help (in a way or another) because that's all Luffy cares about. Helping their friends, but they have to ask for it.

Usopp is way different. He had to apologize. Even if Luffy initially didn't recognized that. Zoro put him into his senses.

The reality of the situation is Usopp is that poor friend who had to be cut off because he couldn't keep up with the rich friend's lifestyle. Luffy is just nika these days anyway, but he definitely thinks very little of most of the SHs, he has no respect for them whatsoever cause they are less than fodder.
I think this is literally just true for Usopp. Nami even without Zeus provides a hax navigator you do actually need. But she has Zeus, and that alone puts her kinda up there power wise. Nothign crazy but she can certainly beat some YC3 type guys if she plays it smart / Oda ever wants to throw her a bone.

Robin can pull her weight against Black Maria, Franky can one shot Vice Admirals and build crazy tech, Brook during Wholecake more than paid for his admission even if he literally only plays music from this point forward. Hell, even Chopper HAS bitch slapped Queen and can provide a useful skill set to the crew.

But Usopp? His stans will hate you for saying it but he literally IS worse than fodder these days. You cant tell me if Luffy just recruited some random giant with a bow that would not be a flat improvement over Usopp. As long as the giant is kinda the size of Lokis mom they would not even be forced to adjust the Sunny to fit them on-board.

Usopp was kinda cooked the second Franky got on-board lowkey. He was sorta the "crafty / inventor" guy besides his snipping gimmick, but now that Franky is part of the crew? Usopp has his goddamn beans and thats kinda it.

He will probably make some speech to help the giants out, and might luck his way into beating Van Augur, but that man is NOT somebody who anybody can make a case for being a true New World pirate. That random filler Beats Pirate who boxed with Luffy for five seconds would beat Usopp low diff.

This is either that water dude or pepperlevi's alt. And yes you're right Luffy barely gives a shit about any SH outside the M3 + Nami these days. They might as well be strangers to him. How are you still a fan of these bums is beyond me.

Thing is that post-skip there has really almost been next to zero interaction between Luffy and anyone not named Zoro/Nami/Sanji/Jinbei.

He's doing his Nika stuff, but SHs like Franky or Brook feel like they are, well, just there, but not really recognized by their own boss.

It's just the direction Oda decided to go, but there is a reason so many fans like pre-skip way more. The dynamic between the SHs was just much more family-like back then.

I wouldn't call it favoritism. Luffy just trusts their strength and decisions more for obvious reasons, but like, Luffy would probably rather spend more time having fun with Ussop or Chopper than hanging out with Sanji or Zoro.
