There was a scene in marineford where whitebeard got blackbeard cornered and cant move. And blackbeard was begging to whitebeard not kill him because he was his son.

i think that time whitebeard can really kill blackbeard but he didnt, because at the end he still thinks blackbeard was his son. This is just show how big ofba heart whitebeard has to his crew that he thinks them as a family not just nobody.
