has a job to kill Vegapunk has been stalled by Luffy since he entered the island, got ragdoll tossed by giant form and has barely been able to see vegapunk since the fight began but yeah thats toying with Luffy.

Anyway, personal headcanon is that this is the result of him being 19 years old and way too young to be challenging 30-60 year old top tier characters.
So in the end, these are things he does to tax his body put of pure ambition, something that'll eventually lead to his death at the end of the series.

That's exactly what's going on here. He has to overcompensate because he's never actually ready for the level that his more experienced opponents are at. Opponents who spent years/decades mastering their fruits, haki, and techniques. Luffy is sorta leapfrogging all of that so naturally it has to come at a cost otherwise that is shit writing.
Luffy and Yonkou fans crying here are coming off extremely salty all a sudden, when this was a problem dating all the way back since EL. Luffy still hasn't even fixed his G4 problems and people want him to have G5 for free lmfao (of all things an ability he was gifted because he died).
The only difference in this fight specifically is we thought Luffy was at the stage where his base all the way up to G5 was top tier, because Kaidou validated it.
So it has come as a huge shock that Kizaru seemed to have treated G4 like an afterthought. This may be a Kizaru exclusive issue for now, but we'll see how he handles it as the fight progresses. So far Kizaru has made Luffy look really bad, the same Luffy that we saw get acknowledged by and go toe to toe with Hybrid Kaidou in G2/3.
If this continues it just means Kizaru is an extremely taxing opponent to face/keep up with, moreso than Kaidou, atleast for Luffy.

Lmfao someone did not read my post. I said GEARS which do consume more Haki. This isn’t rocket science. G4 literally has a time limit exactly because it has a Haki consumption limit before he has to recover. If he’s fighting in base only he is low-diff material for any top tier. He needs at least G2/3 to be competitive.
He's only low diff (without gears) if the opponent is super serious from the start to end.
He's upper-mid diff if he uses adhaki (no gears) or uses gears (2 to 4) without adhaki.

- No adhaki Luffy (using g4 & g5) exhausted Kizaru
- Adhaki Luffy (no gears) pushed Hybrid kaido to mid diff

Thing is g2/3 is not a mode which he keeps activated, he's in base and jumps in and out of it based on the situation. Because he has mastered those forms. So it's almost merged with his base form.
So contrary to what you just said about gears consuming more haki, it's really only an issue beginning with G4, G2/3 do not consume much more haki if at all. Luffy already established himself as a top tier without G4.
