Questions & Mysteries Why is Mihawk considered the WSS when he’s never defeated anyone of note?

#2
Well the manga always revolved around legendary pirates while the world is bigger than just piracy. We haven't even heard about legendary marines other than Garp and Sengoku. Maybe he defeated some top notch swordmans of some kingdoms or even one of the former admirals before the three logias?
Anyways, hopefully it will be revealed later about people that he fought, otherwise it would be weird.

He might have defeated Shanks? Maybe?
Although it’s more implied that they were equals but then Mihawk lost interest after Shanks lost his arm.

Seriously, why is he considered the WSS? Who did he beat? Where is the person or committee measuring his power amongst all other swordsman in the series and making the call?
In before Oda info dumps Mihawk's achievements post-ZKK. :milaugh:

Shanks got his arm eaten by a sea king, and yet none of you Mihawk downplayers doubt he earned his Yonko spot. Curious :seriously:
It's easier to understand when you know the history of the manga itself. Oda never wanted Shanks to lose his arm but his editors said he had to do it in order to make an emotional moment. And worked great!

Also I have a theory that Shanks unleashed CoC in that moment and probably didn't had any haki before. Similar to Luffy that unleashed CoC first.
Some time later he learned haki, advanced types(at least CoC) and became Yonko himself.

He and Mihawk are not fighting since he lost an arm so Shanks can even be stronger than him when he learned ACoC.

I just do not buy this idea that Shanks during meeting Luffy was THAT green behind the ears. From what few glimpses that are given to us Shanks was noteworthy enough for his fights with Mihawk to be the talk of the sea back in the day. I am not saying he didn't grow stronger in the time since, I am just saying the notion that he was some Haki-less scrub, as was Mihawk when they fought, doesn't work.
