I mean blue hair is probably one of fhe more common hair colors in one piece

Vivi
Buggy
Nojiko
Neji
Gunko
Ulti
Whitney Bay
Denjiro

And thats just the ones I remember off rhe top of my head

Oda's always been obsessed with blue haired characters

It's probably a reference to "Royal Blue". The color blue is often associated with royalty or aristocracy, because it used to be a expensive pigment or dye to make.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_blue
https://randombitsoffascination.com/2021/05/13/a-brief-history-of-blueancient-blue-pigments/

So, in theory, the blue hair could be Oda hinting that all these characters descend from some ancient royalty. Possibly the King of the First World. That would explain why Vivi is so important. She's the biggest piece of the puzzle, and the closest to the original royalty, as the Princess of Alabasta.

And yes, people HAVE already been theorizing that Buggy could be related to Vivi before all this.

Alternatively, part of me kind of wonders if it could have some connection to Sapphire Scales. Mind you, none of these characters have that disease. And they don't seem to be carriers for the disease, either. But, maybe they're immune to it? Maybe their family line has blue hair as a side effect of having the right antibodies to fight it off? Similar to the idea of someone's hair turning white because of a bad disease or shock. Similarly, I wonder if there's some connection between all this and the blue dragon that Kaido turns into. I have a hunch that there could be some connection between the Sapphire Scales disease, blue dragons, and blue-haired people. Either blue-haired people being descendants of blue dragons or having some similar reaction to the same disease that effected both humans and dragons, once upon a time. But, time will tell on that.

There probably is some sort of connection between all these people, though. Oda likes to hint about stuff like that. What the connection actually is will be hard to say until Oda actually gets closer to the reveal.

Ah, yes, the well-known inherent fun of the color blue.
:luuh:
You do not find it fun?

What about it in particular is fun, lol? Would there be no fun in giving Xebec black hair?
It can be remembered much more easily. I mean, it's not often that you see such a charismatic character with blue hair. And blue is fun, not as much fun as Yellow or Red from my pov but fun nonetheless, with the right Oda-like Pastel value, it's can be a pretty color

Now, the better question would be, why do you think Black is automatically the best color? Where does this come from?

Because his fans (many of whom lack reading comprehension), think that OP is a manga that steers far from politics, so it wasn’t only right to throw in a couple blue haired liberals in the mix.
Dude, how is 2018 going? Are you having fun there?

are you denying one piece is political or something

Nah, it's just that equating liberals (but really woke people) to blue hairs is really such a 2018 thing to do lol

Overall Oda uses color for storytelling. But a lot of times I believe he is using them to create a new form of appreciation of color. From the exterior, you could say, "it doesn't look great", perhaps, but it's challenging, and that is the fun part of it. Maybe the fun is a construction

Gunko blue hair is meant to contrast Shamrock red hair as they are the main pair of the volume and two-man cell in story. Oda did the same thing with Buggy and Shanks. Maybe you could say Gunko related to Buggy but I doubt it

It's not that complicated

I didn´t say it was necessarily better or worse, I just don´t think it was previously common for the types of characters we are seeing with it now. Again, two different characters with completely different backgrounds intro´d this arc, both have blue hair. Seems notable, tbh.

Also, Oda himself must see some value with Black hair, since he gave it to Xebecs son, who´s kind of one of the more important characters.

Are they even a proper duo? They got intro´d together, but Shamrock left, while Gunko stays in Elbaf. and we know Gunko is significantly older then Shamrock, being Imcel´s personal assistent(?) or whatever since 56 years ago. Maybe you have a point with the Buggy Shanks thing, though.

Oda liberated himself through the course of his carriere, especially in term of color. He explained, if I'm remembering correctly, that he stuck to a very specific color palette in early stage but he learned to overcome that to try new things later on. THis is why the farther we get the more color you can see in color spread and colored drawings. Oda is having a lot more fun now than before in term of color.

The usage are completely different. The one of Gunko is more saturated and plain when the one of Xebec is much more tainted and is only used to contrast a very light blue of his other hairs. They are not really comparable. Blue is simply a fun color to play with.

Yeah, but teach calls himself blackbeard. WOuld be kinda odd to give him another color. (and perhaps, that's not his real color).

It's a disguise, Buggy has ties to Xebec but if Oda floods the market with blue haired characters, you won't notice right away. It lets him hide a secret right in front of us and will have reddit calling him Goda on chapter #1409 when Buggy reveals he's Xebec's secret son
I would buy this if Buggy and Shanks were found together in treasure chests last chapter or whatever, but it would just be retarded for Oda to try justifying Buggy being Xebecs son, and found by the Roger pirates years later. Oda already put the build up for that meme with the bounty pictures being similar, but he didn´t commit to it.

Indifferent about One Piece at best now.

Ofc someone called Jokerr is saying this too.

Xebec’s hair stripes would look better if they were black, as shown in the manga, rather than blue. The contrast between white hair and black stripes is much more striking as the color that contrasts the most with white is black (which isn't even a color in the first place but black stands out more in a white background than blue).

As for Gunko, since Oda originally drew her hair without any colors, I assumed it would be blonde instead of blue. If a character is intended to have darker hair, it’s usually colored that way throughout their appearances in the manga.
I love the blue but I heavily agree too. Yin yang symbolism and parallels Blackbeard getting the Gura Gura and Yami Yami too. Xebec wanted 2 legendary DFs to take on Imu which we still don't know for certains which ones too. Nika must have been one surely? I suspect either Yami Yami or Ope Ope possibly.

So that's why blue = fun :christindeed:

Oda must LOVE Austin Powers too then:
