It's a very iconic moment for a reason. All the ingredients were there to make it resonate with readers.

Shanks didn’t have Akainu scared and he didn’t stop anything. The Marines made a smart strategic rational decision to stop fighting now that ANOTHER yonko precense is on the field late in the game while they are already worn out and having to deal with a new threat with the Tremor Tremor fruit, threatening to destroy the island

I feel like on a normal day the Marines would not have been THAT scared of Shanks but you have to remember that they just had a fight against the strongest Man in the world behind them while also dealing with Blackbeard. No one want's to deal with Shanks on top of that.

Papazuki perpetually fared good in the war. The discrepancy was constituted by him falling into the ground, but there was no substantial reason to believe that had he not fallen he would have been unable to move, let alone keep fighting with his devil fruit. Plot armor probably contributed in making Akainu stay quiet since WB could not die off too soon, and on top of that the first Gura strike had caused Papazuki almost 0 damage.

Yes definitely. Whitebeard showed several fallacies and Kizaru was swiftly getting the upper hand on him. Akainu felt in troubles for a while but was standing unawakened and he probably can awake. Also PIS presumably had him out of the equation for a while. I don't think that Whitebeard with the heart attacks was quite on yonko level, most likely close however.
