Break Week Why Shanks was so obsessed with WSS title?

#1
It's a known fact that Shanks and Mihawk used to duel for years, and even WB was a fan of their duel.
It has been stated in Ace's novel that one of the reasons Shanks made it to the top was because he used to be a rival to WSS
and Mihawk casually insulting Shanks by calling him a cripple, who tf does to a Yonko and his crew.

So, I've been wondering why Shanks was so hung on about that title?
Did he wish to be the WSS?
Did he want to get some attention?
He and Mihawk used to be childhood buddies?
The previous holder of WSS was Roger, and Mihawk took the title from him, so Shanks was so fixated to get it back?

Shanks having no scars received from Mihawk just proves how good of a swordsman Mihawk is.

As we've been told by the manga, a good swordsman has the ability to cut and not cut what he wants.

Being the WSS, winning duels is enough for Mihawk, no need to perma scar opponents that can give ptsd for the rest of their lives.

Shanks after a short clash with Blackbeard (pre any DF btw): permanent scars on his eye
Shanks after multiple duels with Mihawk: *crickets*
Means Mihawk was going easy on him huh ? :myman:

But there is one thing special about Mihawk,
He has no scar, no mark of shame and no cut in all his body, he earned the Title while being unscathed ... the only Top Tier character without any visible wound or scar in the entire series :steef::steef::steef:

Where did you get that info? We don't even know if WSS title even existed before Mihawk. Sure, in every generation there was someone who was the strongest swordsman, and that was probably Roger in his time, but no one ever refered to him like that. Just like there is no one holding the "world's best sniper" or "world's best club user" titles although we know who would most probably hold them if they existed. There is more to WSS title than just being the strongest and using a sword. At some point this title was concieved and we still don't know how, why and when. We also don't know when Mihawk got this title. Maybe it was before Shanks lost his arm. Maybe it was years after. And one thing we most certainly don't know is wheter Shanks ever even cared about the WSS title.
He might have dueled Mihawk for fun, you know, like Luffy and Kaido :vistalaugh:

Shanks never cared about WSS title, he gave it to Mihawk as a consolation prize:suresure:

the part i bolded would mean it wasnt about the title for shanks. And i can totally see that option being the case.

the roger part would be interesting, but i guess we would have gotten some info on roger being the wss in the wano flashback
