Looking at the Wi Fi haki feat in the anime, I honestly find it hard to believe that Teach is capable of fighting Shanks.
It seems as if Shanks's CoC was capable of not only paralyzing GB, but also seemingly deactivating his powers.
How will Teach, a guy whose fighting style revolves around DFs, possibly be able to counteract this ability? I have two theories.
1. Teach beats Shanks with help from Kid
This is simple, both have grudges against Shanks. Shanks likely destroyed Kid's entire crew. If Kid's still alive, teaming up with Teach to take down shanks is the most likely move for him. Having Shanks fall 2v1 also respects Shanks's character as it allows him to retain his hype even in defeat.
2. Teach getting a massive boost in mobility, likely via a 3rd DF
As we can see from the wifi haki scene, the haki Shanks is using isn't just a random blast, its a targeted beam.
This means that if you can dodge the beam, then you won't get paralyzed by his haki.
This is where I see Teach's 3rd DF coming into play. I think Teach will get a DF that greatly increases his speed, allowing him to cover for his shit mobility. I think the Nikyu Nikyu no mi would be a good 3rd DF, but there could be others as well that serve this purpose. The pika pika no mi, or a possible Yokai zoan with teleportation powers could also do the job.
With a speed DF, Teach would be able to dodge Shanks's paralyzing haki blasts and engage him in combat. However due to the fact that Shanks is an expert in future sight, Teach will still likely need assistance from Kid to take down Shanks.
Ultimately, it doesn't make much sense for Teach to currently be able to fight Shanks 1v1 and win. His powers are derived from DFs and he has shown absolutely zero signs of advanced haki. All of which means that he would get utterly stomped by Shanks's immense haki prowess. This is despite the fact that Teach is still a very powerful character and could probably stomp other top tiers such as Big Mom and the Admirals. Simply put, Shanks is on another level.
Due to this, both outside assistance and a third DF will likely be necessary in order for Teach to defeat Shanks.
This won't really change things for Luffy because unlike Shanks, Luffy doesn't have the Wifi haki that can instantly paralyze admiral+ tier fighters and possibly even deactivate their DFs. Hence, Teach will remain an insurmountable foe for him.
However once Luffy does awaken this power, the odds will be greatly evened

-DFless Teach has a confirmed scar on Shanks.
-Mihawk has not.
Like it or not, Teach's Haki > Mihawk's Haki or Greenbull's Haki so Shanks can't do that shit to him.
