Why would Mihawk bother to fight Shanks if he wasn‘t a swordsman? Why is related to Shanks specifically and not Whitebeard, Kaido or Big Mom? If it’s just about strength two of them are stronger than Shanks, and you can even now add the question of why Mihawk’s rival isn’t an Admiral since we’ve discovered he used to go around hunting them.
He obviously fought Shanks and is compared to Shanks because him and Shanks were the two best.
For Shanks > Mihawk you have to believe that Shanks was just, like, humouring him all this time and he has a super mode non-swordsman fighting style that he never used against Mihawk.
Which would be dogshit writing. Makes Mihawk look a fool, makes Shanks look a dick who doesn’t have any respect for him. And for what, so Shanks can be the super secret strongest man alive? Which is a pointless plotpoint unless he’s the last fight for Luffy, and… he isn’t the last fight for Luffy.
