No, the reason Zoro is so appealing in this verse is because of his place as the 2nd. He works well with Luffy as the MC, they play off each other well. Huge reason why pre skip is held in such high regard.

His personality doesn't fit the format to be the MC of One Piece, or Shonen in general. He's more Seinen material as an MC. With most Shonen's, no matter how serious the MC can become, there has to be a certain level of lightheartedness maintained, and Zoro just doesn't have it.

Not the "Monster" manga where Johan Liebert is in. Talking about the "Monster" one shot of Oda where Ryuma is the MC.

Even in Monster, Ryuma was a lighthearted character. There would have to be tweaks made to his character in general for Zoro to be a Shonen MC.
