I don't think one example is really proof, of the name being inherited every other D was born with the initial passed down their family line and since Sabo's been basically adopted by the monkey D family he's an honorary D

How then Imu didn't know that Lily is from D. Clan? While it is true that D. name can be passed threw generations, that doesn't mean that D. Name wasn't originally come from group of people who inherited Joy Boy's will.

No it’s confirmed Dragon is Garp’s son . It was confirmed in Aokiji’s flashback.

Rocks D. Xebec is a majorly significant historical figure. To the point where Oda still shadows his face almost as much as Imu's.
He's a legendary precursor to Luffy, just like Roger.

To put things into perspective I am sure nobody would have thought Luffy, Ace & Sabo fought bandits and a large tiger in their childhood. Nor would they believe Garp used them as mini-punching bags. Thanks to that flashback we know however this is the case.
