It's interesting how there is no overt hierarchy other than Blackbeard being the captain and they otherwise treat each other like a gang of scum. Similar to the Shanks crew, but here you can't even tell if Shiryu or Burgess is unofficial Vice Captain or not. Blackbeard has no definitive Big Three subordinates you see in pretty much every crew.
They're all free to downplay and make fun of one another. Everyone laughs at Blackbeard for being rejected by Bonney. Shiryu jokes that he's surprised Burgess survived Dressrosa. Laffitte threatens to kill Pizarro for disrespecting Blackbeard and not Pizarro or anyone in the rest of the crew even bats an eyelash if these two suddenly decide to off each other. No respect, no loyalty, but perhaps some form of camaraderie?
The Blackbeard Pirates have an interesting approach to life in that they believe everything is predetermined by fate. They behave in a careless and laid back manner because it's all up to their luck anyway. They almost died to Magellan's poison, but not really, because it was always written in the stars that their buddy Shiryu would save them. Lucky or unlucky to Blackbeard's men, the only loser is the person too cowardly to risking invading Impel Down while Marineford was happening. You're not going to get a crew of Impel Down badasses if you don't leave the house.
The above sentiment also makes the crew very hungry and opportunistic. They jump at so many events and leave it up to fate if things actually work out. Crocodile was taken out, there's a new opening in the Shichibukai system? Laffitte goes plug Blackbeard in Mary Geoise. Whitebeard might lose his life in Marineford? From Impel Down to join the war immediately. Doflamingo is hosting a tournament for the Mera Mera? Get Burgess in there. Luffy can't use haki after G4's impressive power? Time to go in for the kill. Rev HQ Baltigo gets discovered? Raid it for weapons. It seems like the Blackbeard Pirates have eyes all over the New World, including inside the isolated Wano, and are ready to deploy men the moment they see something they like.
They're a young crew on the rise, but they show the negative side of grow and ambition. Blackbeard is only at the 2 billion mark and he will probably have the highest Yonko bounty in the end. He killed his buddy Thatch for one of his powers, his father Whitebeard for the other. Shiryu turns invisible, a natural backstabber. Devon creates illusions, just made to trick people. Laffitte hypnotizes others into doing his bidding. Doc Q plays his life and death games. Until recently, they got around in a wooden raft treating their ship as purely utilitarian and easily disposable. The upgraded rafts might still be. The crew is mostly powerful because they picked up some already powerful but heinous criminals from Level 6, their growth is hardly organic. The Blackbeard Pirates will use every shorcut and pull out every dirty trick in the book in their rise to power.
Eventually, all these factors will add up and tear the BB pirates at the seams. We may be seeing a parallel of the Rocks crew where so many prominent and conflicting figures were only held together as long as captain Rocks was alive.
