Looking back on it, I really dislike Nami vs Ulti. Because it isn't really Nami vs Ulti, a more proper name for that battle would probably be Big Mom vs Ulti. Because what did Nami really do?
Okay, Ulti is strong, I get it. So Oda needed to nerf her by having her get her insides shredded by big mom. Its kinda shit, but fine. The problem is that even after that, Nami had absolutely nothing to do with Ulti's defeat. She used zeus to enhance her clima-tact and smack an already nerfed Ulti for negligible damage, and that's about it. After that she used a massive attack with zeus, the attack missed, and zeus re-directed it so that it would hit Ulti.
So basically Big Mom took out 90% of Ulti's HP and Zeus, big mom's homie, took out the other 10%.
With Big Mom, Zeus is a legitimate weapon. Like Zoro's sword or Yasopp's gun. Zeus was something big mom created herself, which she uses to increase her speed and mobility, as well as enhance her punches and slashes. When Kid and Law are fighting big mom, its Linlin who is the real threat, not Hera, prometheus, or napoleon. Those are just Big Mom's tools.
But with Nami, Zeus seems like like a tool and more like a pokemon that Nami can just set upon her enemies. It takes literally zero skill from Nami's part. I don't understand why every other SH has their own strength and creates their own power ups, whereas Nami, one of 2 women on the crew, just has it handed to her. Being over 1000+ chapters into the series, Oda could chose to change how Nami is portrayed. Have her create her own power ups and make herself stronger like everyone else. But nope, everything is just handed to her.
Usopp gives her a clima-tact upgrade. She gets to just steal zeus because big mom is retarded in WCI, and now zeus gets embedded into her weapon, making it stronger. I will admit, yeah I guess she did steal a weapon from a yonko, for all that's worth. But it just seems cheap, when every other straw hat gets stronger with their own strength. You can even look at something like Sanji's germa power ups and see the difference. His gene power up was a one time thing and he subsequently used it to create a power up for himself with Ifrit jambe.
It just bothers me because Nami was one of the founding members of the straw hat pirates and Oda likes to make her seem important, but imo Oda's writing of her character has steadily declined as time passes.
