There is no clear "deuteragonist" in One Piece like let's say Naruto, My Hero Academia, Black Clover, etc. OP is more structured like Dragon Ball and Bleach where you have Goku and Ichigo as the MC and the rest of the cast are major supporting characters. Some might say Vegeta is the second MC of DB but there's also Piccolo, Gohan, Trunks, etc. But if I have to pick a character that can fulfill the role of the deuteragonist of OP, it's gotta be Zoro.

I have no problem with Zoro being first mate.
And for Sanji fans who slander Zoro for this, dont do this.

It is good if Oda manage to do it in the right way. So far, Zoro did well in Wano.
And for Sanji, he also got rid of raid suit.

Oda is not perfect, but I hate it when he dont even try (most of the rants are about this).

The issues about SHs have decreased, but overall Wano was bad due to dragging. I hope we dont follow the same theme in next arcs; enough of saving countries and focusing on NPCs and their back stories.

There are no complaints about current Zoro. Anybody who say otherwise, is a hater.
Even Sanji did well, so its a win win.

He has no purpouse in those roles. His value is being Zoro. he's not a good leader or charismatic or even interested in those things. we liked Zoro because he's singularly focused on becoming wss swordsman and by becoming a strawhat equally invested in making Luffy the pirate king.being firstmate isn't in his interest or ability and takes away from what I initially valued in Zoro. but maybe thats the direction oda is choosing to take for the crew. they hardly seem focused on their initial goals and thats in oart of whats missing from One Piece.
