Why didn't Kaido kill them in the first place? the reason is obvious, characters don't die in this manga, we are used to that, but when it starts to be used to stall and extend the plot it become super dumb writing

That’s only true, maybe half the time? Sanji was trapped/caught in Kalifa’s soap trap because it gave Nami a reason to fight her to retrieve her key in Sanji’s place. Just like Sanji being caught by Black Maria is obviously setting up Robin and Brook saving Sanji.

It’s right there in front of your eyes but since Sanji isn’t kicking someone’s butt it seems inconsequential to you guys....
