Holding a sword doesnt make you into a swordsman. Neither Luffy nor Franky Shogun are swordsmen despite holding swords.
Brook is a swordsman but he is not the same type of swordsman that Zoro is.
Zoro follows the path of a Bushido which is not what Brook does.

Bushi-do: a path/way(morals and code of honor) of a warrior/samurai.
It is true that Zoro has no specific role, other than a basic description of a combatant which every other SH has(secondary to their primary roles) but that's what makes Zoro special. He is more than just an underling/Vice-Captain/First mate.

Nah man, he's gonna steal Zoro's sword. Since that's in character for both of them. Zoro lets the other Straw Hats use his swords all the time, and Luffy disrespects Zoro so much that he just steals his precious swords any chance he can get.

Don't forget, only Zoro has the tier 7 magic sword and Luffy said he'd cut Kaido. Just like he said he wouldn't run from anyone then ran away from Big Mom. :yasu:

My point is, it gives Oda the opportunity to never develop Luffy beyond that. I like it when protagonists open themselves up to new things and or knowledge and/or techniques or so.

Yeah, but Luffy has ACoA

he doesn't need to be as good of a swordsman as Zoro. Combine ACoA, a sword, and a new G4 form and Luffy could do a shitton of damage to Kaido

Except swords aren't really compatible with G4. Plus since Luffy doesn't know how to use swords, him having to change his fighting style to accommodate a sword he isn't familiar with would be a hindrance to him, which he can't afford when fighting someone like Kaido. Luffy using a sword in base against fodder is one thing, but against Kaido? Yeah no.

Luffy changes his fighting style all the time. He invented G2 and G3 on the spot. To use a sword, all Luffy would have to do is use kong gun, but while holding a sword.

Like anyone can "use" a sword. its not rocket science. Yes, you need technique if you want to be a sword master, but Luffy isn't going to do that and I never said he will.

Luffy has insane CoA and insane physical abilities. He doesn't need to know any sword techniques to cut kaido, he's literally just that strong.
the thing about kaido is that he has insane durability. So Luffy might be motivated to use a high lethality weapon like a sword.
