Ryuma was pre skip zoro young in monsters. And wano was open. So as a young swordsman he travelled all over the world gaining strength and reputation which is where monsters took place. Until he returned to wano in his prime and defended it till he died. Then when they no longer had ryuma the kozuki clan closed wano.

Those guys conveniently forgot the part where we were told Killer was blackmailed into fighting for Orochi in order to save his crew.
I dont know what more motivation an individual needs than to protect their lives ones.
We were shown Killerwas willing to do anything and kill anyone in order to save his crew.
The other argument is the weapon argument. That killer was not using his preTS weapons.
Those same guys also conveniently forgot that Killer switched weapons during the TS. He used mechanical sickles preTS and used mechanical scythes postTs. In wano he was using normal scythes instead of mechanical scythes.
These same guys who make all the excuses for Killer also conveniently forgot that we saw Zoro in throughout the preTS and postTS, pickup weapons for the first time and usethem without issue:
The only person who suddenly gets a debuff when he picks up a new weapon is Killer. Very convenient. Killer is also the only guy who suddenly gets a debuff when a nakama's life is in danger. very convenient

- In along park, zoro took Johnys and the other guys sword and used themwithout issue despite them not being katana
- In loguetown, he picked up 2 new swordsand used them without issue.
- In thriller bark he picked a new sword and used it without issue
- In Wano he picked up a knife and scythe and used them without issues.
- Nami and Usopp got bluffswhen the pickup new weapons
