It most likely a combo of both since we also saw their weapon was coated.
CoC might add more force or give more AP to said attack.

Is it only me but after zoro landed the attack, i feel some time has passed. It feel like there's a gap between his attack and luffy waking up. Oda must have kept the asura form shaded else im sure the provider would have drawn it.
