But Roger here wanted to test Oden only, he needed Oden to question him about Wano etc, so it would be completely stupid to try to kill or maim him hard.

probably, but it happens like that in battles...you don't show your best move from the start...what if Kaido starts seriously from the fight too unlike he did in the previous few chapters...it is not like Kaido wait and let Zoro attack in ashura if he wa serious from the start...and giving scar doesn't imply dealing more damage (possible but that is not criteria)...and by the looks of it, Kaido is still not in a near death situation.....there will be more to come from him...and Zoro didn't start fight in a worst condition, then how do you even call this nerf...
An explanation about the situation right now and why some people think that Zoro is doing more than Luffy:
The thing is, we've been seeing Luffy doing always the main fights, now Zoro is there to help so it's obvious that people(specially Zoro fans) are going to see more to what Zoro does in the fight than Luffy as we are already accustomed to see Luffy doing his things.
Zoro is doing super well in this fight letting aside the fights if it's because Enma or not, he cut Kaidou in order to release his captain but not only that but he was also able to stop Hakai for a brief moment to give them time to escape(which they all did thanks to Law), and now he has finally awakened Haoushoku tho we don't know if it was uncuncious as Luffy did pre time skip or not(we have to wait to read this chapter to see if they give us information about this).
In my opinion obviously Luffy has been the one who has done more damage and things in this fight but the second supernova who did more was undoubtedly Zoro as he has saved Luffy in the fight a few times too.
But again, I can understand people saying that Zoro did better or is better than Luffy because it's a rare thing that he is fighting there.

Well, this is bullshit, preview chapter, Luffy said that the next attack is a big one, Big Mom said that how many will die on it? Kaido is surprise he can hear voices after, Law ask to Zoro if he still alive. what in the world are you talking? Oden would be heavly damaged too.
It is clear that Zoro took insane amount of damage there, Killer ask to Zoro if he is okay going to promethus and Zoro replay he has too.

Looking at your Ancient Kingdom vs. World Government theory, there are also theories that WG has a devil fruit tree which is the source to provide their/marine's agents with devil fruits. Origin of the devil fruits may belong to AK and after that somehow WG (or 20 kingdoms) might took the possession of fruits, which may lead AK to found/use haki as a countermeasure to those devil fruits.
My argument is, knowing the lost century (through Roger Pirates or Celestial Dragons), Shanks might have focused on improving his haki to prepare for the final war.
