I say Akainu because in the act of killing Ace he broke Luffy down mentally and emotionally and left a scar. In a final war where we face the world government’s mightiest forces the strongest admiral against the pirate king makes a lot of sense, kinda like Garp and Roger back in the day. I’m also a believer in Akainu having conquerors haki so that could really work in his favor along with his devil fruit which seemingly, to me, is the most destructive ability out there. Tbh these are all good choices and that Blackbeard theory made a lot of sense.
That's true, they're as strong as Oda wants to be. I personally really don't think he'll be the EoS villain as he doesn't feel that important and relevant enough other than just revenge. Imu is connected to the void century and BB is connected to the Will of D. Akainu will just be an obstacle in the war and the fight will majorly only be for personal revenge which would be... lame if I'm being honest. But let's just see what happens.
Thing is Akainu can be the strongest top tier rn, that would still make him too basic of a follow up to Teach if the battle were to be an honest one. What you need in an EOS villain isn't some run of the mill top tier, but an unprecedented opponent who very clearly stands head and shoulders above the rest. Akainu is just one of the pack, just like Kaidou or anyone else for that matter.
But this isn't a boxing bout, anything is fair game, so there are still options here to build tension. Power scaling def matters here, and it would to Oda as well, because you can't go from a grand battle with Teach back down to a traditional top tier. I don't see Akainu getting any major powerups like Teach, so if the battle does take place after Teach's, it's possible the confrontation is a very dirty one, where Akainu has some advantages off the jump. Which I wouldn't mind, it would make him an even greater villain, and go in line with his character which is absolute justice, terminate evil at all costs. We might be due for some of the most ruthless scenes in One Piece, and that could be just as satisfying if not more than the battle with Teach.

@Celestial D. Dragon that's a really good prediction many people are alrwady buying the idea of Xebec being BB's inspiration kinda similar with Luffy and Roger, BB achieces Xebec's goal, Luffy succeeds Roger and they both fight. Multiple way with this.
And BB is the only man in history to obtain a second power, a common final boss trope to power up the final villain with the strongest abilities.

Yeah I'm liking Celestial's theory - I'm fully team Blackbeard for final antagonist.
Im being the final opponent for me would have no weight behind it, similar to Kaguya. He strikes me more as the world-level threat who'll be defeated along with the WG, uniting and saving the world etc etc... and just when it seems like everything's fine, all you hear is "Zehahaha" or some shit lmfao and Blackbeard appears.
Like imagine in Naruto just before they land the final blow on Kaguya, Madara takes his body back and becomes the final antagonist. Imo that would've been a much more fulfilling ending. I'm not a fan of these gods popping out of nowhere and stealing the show - I'd rather Oda ends One Piece with a battle between pirates.

There is also Gorousei, who is above Akainu, we don't know if they fight or not, just like we don't know about Imu.

Then Roger fights WB, ends in a stalemate. Then goes to surrender, however he turns his execution into a show and the government gets into a huge trouble due to the Pirate Age.
Luffy defeats Rocks, which is Kaido.
Then fights BB, ends in a stalemate, BB wants Luffy's help to overthrow the government after telling the secrets he knows about the government and D. , Luffy declines, they split up,
BB tries to overthrow the government, partially wins but loses and dies due to not having enough allies against the all government forces. (just like in the real history), meanwhile Luffy goes to Laugh Tale finds One Piece.
Then Luffy succeeds on defeating Admirals and other government forces with the help of Revolutionaries and other allies.

I’m still hoping the SHs fight the BB pirates on a deserted island like raftel or something without all the extra side characters and outside factors, and then later the marines will be the final antagonists with luffy vs Akainu being the main fight and then Imu being defeated easily which will end the war.
- Blackbeard. From the small things like drinks and foods, they couldnt agree on it. It was a depiction so beautiful in building up counterpart and arch enemy of Luffy vs Blackbeard
- I just cant find reason for only Luffy to solely fight Akainu, since Luffy's target is WG itself since Enies Lobby. Akainu killed Ace while Luffy struggled to free Ace from the Marines etc. Yet Luffy's not a revengeful kind imo, even though his scar hurt when he remembered Akainu, like Kenshin's scar when he remembered Tomoe and Enishi Yukishiro. That being said, i believe Luffy will clash against Akainu at some point, their dialogue full of clashing ideologies intersecting intensely between their attacks.
But only until Sabo takes the role, of someone not present in MF even though he should have been, and tells Luffy to leave this matter to him. And further, Sabo holds Ace's fruit, which was beaten by Akainu's magma in MF: This may be the foreshadowing of Sabo's fire inheriting Ace's "will of fire" to surpass Akainu. Which is why imo Sabo will finish the fight against Akainu.
- Shanks. Okay i wanted this thing before i joined Orojackson and WG. After defeating BB and WG, Luffy and co reached the final place of One Piece. But Shanks finally comes, acting as the herald of One Piece yo find Luffy's worth.
Or, when that happens, Shanks reveals his own agenda, history and scenario of what he guides Luffy to be, a huge plot twist happens that changes our mind about Shanks, and apparently their parting of ways ideological-wise that convinces Shanks that he must stop Luffy from being PK since Luffy diverted from Shanks' vision. (Besides him, stands Mihawk pointing his Yoru to Zoro to also test Marimo's worth)
This would be Luffy's final Trial of Kings. So in this scenario i imagine finding OP as true ending of the story after Luffy defeat BB-WG.
Or other alternative, Luffy vs Shanks happens after Luffy becomes PK and defeating WG, in rather after-story atmosphere, student vs mentor vibe but without real world-deciding stake.
Those are two feasibilities i find possible if i support Shanks being the final opponent.
- But i think the strongest possibility is always Imu. The name itself is amazing, his presence is godlike, and he represents Domination, Destiny, The Absolute, while Luffy represents Dream, Freedom, Hope. So its like a rebellion against the absolute ruler that Luffy's freedom must accomplish.

I expect a Kaguya with a clear motives, solid history, narrative, a real character. Also a Kaguya who delivers powerscaling-wise, a real godlike entity. Not someone who supposedly can "change reality" but not actually hurting the MCs since the author cant find ways around it. So the best version of Kaguya.

I think it's quite possibly Imu but that would depend on a few notions:
Was Joy Boy the first D.?
Is Luffy the man destined to establish order?
Is Im the one who had overthrown Joy or at least a descendant of some sort?
After all Im looks like someone that can keep controlling the world outside unless stopped in some way. But that doesn't necessarily mean in a 1 on 1 either, yet this is a Shonen.

After all Im looks like someone that can keep controlling the world outside unless stopped in some way. But that doesn't necessarily mean in a 1 on 1 either, yet this is a Shonen.
The fact that he has the Gorosei (who are clearly fighters) groveling at his feet is a good enough argument for him to be a fighter.

The Gorosei are in possession of a supreme blade, have scars, and have shredded bodies. They’re clearly fighters, or else they’d look like fat slobs, just like the rest of the Celestial Dragons. How else would you explain the highest ranking CDs having scars? They should be the most protected people in the world besides Im. I don’t get why this fandom is so hesitant to admit that the Gorosei should be strong
