He could easily leave him somewhere else to heal offpanel for couple of chapters. But he has Sanji immediately carry him right at the moment he returned from the roof. Zoro' role in the arc is not over. Nothing is proven wrong yet.

Indeed what I was attempting to explain to the less attentive, particularly:

Zoro doesn't necessarily have to defeat Kaido in order to kill him.

Kaido affirmed perfection can be found in death, so if he's defeated he would perhaps prefer to be killed by Zoro instead of being imprisoned for life.
