Yeah, scared because of the potential threat that he sees in them according to the auhor (which is not realy a threat as Kaido is strong). It is just his mind set or in other words Oda is trying so hard to make Momo relevant to the story that is feels cringy. He is strong, no doubt.

The claim that he wants to kill him to shatter the wills of the alliance is rubbish. This is my point.

not really....even now no implications that those things are literal.....One piece main theme is still freedom....freedom to do whatever you want on the seas...Luffy is "destined" to become pirate with "ultimate freedom" and he bends destiny to his will, not the other way around....in other words...Luffy is not doing destiny work, destiny is doing Luffy work....for example, Luffy is destined to die in impel down during ivankow treatment and ivankow himself said that he is fighting against his destiny and miracle happened...
