It was said literally everywhere that they're rivals. Even Zoro's noodles pubblicity had something like this:

Zoro: A second-year high school that practices kendo. One year ago, At the National Kendo Tournament, he lost to his high school senior, Mihawk. Ever since then, he aimed to defeat Mihawk and become the world's best swordsman. Zoro constantly dozes off, and is late to school every day. He has a rivalry with Sanji and throws chalk at the teacher during class. Zoro never hits the teacher though, and gets hit with a ruler instead.

In Japan this is how mangakas portray rivalry, if you ask every japanese if Zoro and Sanji are rivals he'll say "yeah, of course".

With a Sanji who didn't want to hurt him, while Zoro in that movie acted like a bitch.
I am not using the commercial as a canon thing, just want to say that this Is the perception japanese people have of Sanji and Zoro, fightning for stupid stuff and all is how mangakas portray rivals, it's a common thing like tsunderes, like how to explain It mm.. it's also like japanese gags and other stuff.
