Character Discussion Yamato is the damsel of this arc and you’re gonna be disappointed if you think otherwise...

I'm gonna say this:
She's the woman with the highest potential currently.
This fight against Kaido and/or her possible other fight in the arc will solidify that.
Having said that...
Robin also had a tremendous potential.
So....what I'm trying to say is, I'm gonna be thrilled if Yamato kick some ass here in Wano, but I will hold by breath until the next arc to declare if she's top tier material or not.
I HOPE that she is, and I HOPE we have 4 SH's against 4 Admirals in the future. No Blackbeard killing Kizaru BS. All SH's glory.
Also, if Oda is really keeping the "zoro fights 2nd strongest" and "sanji fights 3rd strongest" trending here, I have ZERO reasons to believe Yamato will shake the Monster Trio dynamic. Dude can't even kill a cloud but somehow I'm supposed to believe he's gonna change the Monster Trio in the final 10 minutes of the second half of the game?
Nope.
But if the Monster Trio are the only ones from current SH's to break the 1B bounty milestone, I sure hope Yamato does it as well.

• Jimbe didn't get the honour of defeating a Number.
• Jimbe has been fighting a Tobi Roppo for hours with no success.
• Jimbe was dead equal with Fishman Island G2 Luffy.

Compare Yamato:

• Yamato debuts by oneshotting a Tobi Roppo.
• Yamato them embarrasses a pissed off and impatient Post Udon G2/G3 Luffy.
• Yamato then oneshots a Number.

Yamato is reminding me more of Brook. Being a Strawhat candidate almost immediately after their introduction (Luffy asked Brook, Yamato made his intention very clear), being stuck on an island for many years, having history with someone the Strawhats already knew (Laboon/Ace) and now facing the one whose defeat can set them free (Ryuma/Kaido).

So Yamato might not have much of a chance against Kaido (almost certainly) but in a later group effort he could help the other Strawhats like Brook did against Oars.

Yamato is more than a princess. Actually she has nothing to do with any princess at all. We already have a princess this arc and is called BItch Motherless Queen of Sluts Hiyori(I may have added something to her name, can't help myself).

If you wanna compare Yamato with someone the best that came up in my mind is Robin that were never truly sided by Crocodile and fought him at the end. Or maybe Franky that fought Luffy for some bullshit reason and became friends later on.

Conclusions
Since her introduction, Yamato has been racking up an unending streak of Ws. Leaving aside her female counterparts, Oda hasn't depicted most male combatants with the same respect. If Yamato is a damsel, then 99% of One Piece's male combatants are damsels as well.

Her fight with Luffy in particular stands out. The only other people that have so casually handled G2/G3 Luffy have been Doffy, Cracker and Katakuri (all solid high tiers). However, the Luffy Yamato fought is considerably stronger than the Luffy either of them fought, as this was Luffy after his Udon training. Compared to his WCI version, Post Udon Luffy had:

• Much stronger observation haki: Future Sight
• Much stronger armament haki: barrier armament and penetration armament
• Significantly higher base stats: Udon training in the Karouseki handcuffs

Yet this same Luffy was treated by Yamato like a petulant child.

The hype Oda has given Yamato is through the Roof, and he has consistently delivered and followed through on that hype with unblemished portrayal.

I know some people are sceptical of Yamato's standing as a combatant given Oda's horrendous track record with female fighters, but Oda has had ample opportunity to undermine Yamato as a fighter, and has instead done the opposite at every turn. As such, this is one occasion where I trust Oda to deliver.

Yes, at this point it's obvious.
Yamato is competent, she can fight, is a certified badass (and I like badasses) and looks stunning.
I am liking her more and more. Just make her grow out of the Oden stuff.
