Both times, Mihawk didn't take Shanks seriously.
if Mihawk never took Red Hair's presence seriously then he wouldn't be yapping about agreements not involving Shanks

I see the Mihawk wank is as strong as ever.
Watch him get killed before Zoro gets to him lol, Oda shouldn't have made him Zoro's mentor.
idk why but i have the feeling that oda will kill off Mihawk for some reason...

a trope?

idk but it has be lingering in my head

Mihawks is afraid of losing to Shanks because would be a shame to lose to an one armed man. He knows Shansk would surpass him because Shanks has CoC and he doesn't. That's why he choose Zoro to surpass him and that's why he didn't teach Zoro about CoC(he himself doesn't have).

Have any of ya'll thought to consider the possibility that the reason Mihawk refuse to fight Shanks at Marineford was because of his status as a...celestial dragon/noble?

why would he know that if shanks is really a cd.
Roger sat down and talked to Whitebeard about what he discovered, it wouldn‘t be much of a surprise if Shanks and Mihawk did the same. The two are on pretty good terms, we know they talked about Luffy years before Mihawk met him, and that Mihawk is happy to sail right into Shank’ territory to (again) talk about Luffy.

Although I don’t think Shanks is a CD

WTF that talk about Shanks being Celestial Dragon and Mihawk not fighting him for that. Shanks was ready to go on war against Marines and BB at Marineford, he didn't demand Sengoku to stop that war because of his status. Doffy was a Celestial Dragon he could have fought him in terms of status.

Shanks wants to fight Mihawk, Mihawk is the one avoiding to fight. Mihawk is clearly doesn't giving a shit if Shanks is or not Celestial Dragon.

I think it's presumably related to their previous encounter and Mihawk mentioning Shanks' one armed state.
