That's a lot for me :
■ Roger:
- a swordman who can send Air slash
- can kill ppl
- had a wild beast aura
- has a desire to fight strong ppl to kill his boredom .
■ Zoro :
- a swordman who can send air slash .
- can kill ppl .
- have a wild beast aura
- has a desire to fight strong ppl to kill his boredom .

And also his advanced Coa :

Waiting for sanji to use an axe to be like scopper .:myman:

This was an amazing chapter.

Though I think it needs to be said because the powerlevel fags were losing their minds: Theres no reason to take this battle seriously. It was portrayed as a friendly scrap. These guys are clearly good pals and for all we know this is just how they greet eachother. lol.

Roger's showings were of course interesting because it's the first indication of what he can do and Haki-wise it sets a bar for Luffy to reach.

Not sure if the translation is bad but the one I'm reading says 13 years ago Roger reach the end of the log pose at the island Road Star. Is that accurate? I'm fairly certain that Roger entered the Grandline as his final adventure about 3 years before he died. I'd need to re-read the conversation with Rayleigh but in any case this suggests Roger had been all over the Grandline before finding the way to sail through it.

Also, did anyone else notice the similarities?

What the fuck did they say??? Stop fucking with me Oda.

Another scene I like is the one where all the little apprentices are sizing eachother up. Now this isn't Oda's best but it is an example of why his exposition is so great. One of the main things authors will tell you about how to do great exposition is that you should always try to do more than just dump lore info. That you should try to accomplish multiple things at once. And here we have a great example of Oda giving us pieces of characterization along with important info about Blackbeard. Not only to we get a hint at the mystery surrounding Teach but we also learn that even from a young age Buggy was rather shrewd and observant. He was keeping an eye on one of his rivals and even managed to gather a bit of information about him. Whereas with Shanks we get a brief glimpse of his worldview in that he prioritizes the enjoyment of life above most things. Which falls in line with how he's always been shown partying and attending weddings. So for me it was really great to see confirmation that those scenes weren't random but were actually purposeful in hinting at who Shanks is as a person.

Next thing I wanna talk about is this scene:

Because it hints at a whole lot of information regarding awakening. Now as I've said many times a lot of people think that awakening your fruit means any fruit that affects the environment is awakened. Whih of course would be nonsense. Some devil fruits affect the environment just as a natural description of their power. Senior Pink's Devil Fruit lets him swim through land as if it were the ocean. Thats just what the power does. Using it on the world around him doesn't mean that it's awakened. The same would go for Crocodile using his hand to dry up the land and turn it into sand. Thats not awakening just a natural application of his power. The same would also for for the likes of Robin whose power is to make her limbs sprout from anywhere. So Doflamingo's definition of awakening is way off or even just poorly translated.

However here I think we get a closer hint at what Doflamingo actually meant. It appears as if through his will alone the ocean begins to quake. Does that mean that if Whitebeard got angry enough or if he simply he could affect the world with his quakes without needing to do anything? Like shake the world with endless quakes? No wonder people feared this power. This lends more credence to the idea that Whitebeard could have indeed destroyed the world if he wanted to.

Other than that I loved Whitebeard this chapter. He's essentially the pinnacle of Fatherhood and the living embodiment of the ideal of family. I really loved the part where he tells his crew to give all the treasure and supplies back so Oden's family didn't starve. The character has been dead for years and somehow Oda is still making me respect this guy.

Lastly we should all really take a moment to stop and marvel at the fact this chapter is full of rare instances of Pirates actually doing pirate shit. I mean wow.

Orochi hair colour didn't change though, and the spiky hair of gabban doesn't match the hair of the mysterious guy.
In one piece, physical features don't change much over the years..look at oden,is he any different from his 18years old appearance?
Yeah physical may not, but the hair does lol, Orochi is exception because he's too damn smart

In this very same chapter, Roger and WB did 0 damage to the island they were fighting on for 3 days, and to make matters worse, their crews were fighting too. Ace vs BB caused more collateral damage. Birdcage even caused more collateral damage. This chapter just shows us that you shouldn’t take power scaling too seriously
OR people need to stop basing characters strength on the amount of collateral damage they cause. Because it doesn't mean anything in fiction. Planet lvl fighters or even Universal lvl fighters can have a scrap and literally destroy nothing at all. Damage to the environment doesn't mean jack shit in fiction. Even moreso in One Piece where Oda has already made it clear that Haki users can literally choose what they want to destroy and it would make no sense to destroy the island they're fighting on.

Oda had no clear idea about Haki
People. Stop repeating this nonsense. This is nothing but fan headcanon and conjecture.

Remember when literally no one in MF ever used Hardening? How is it not obvious that Oda didn’t have Haki planned out back then?
Because simply deciding to change how he showed it doesn't negate the fact that it had already been set up throughout the entirety of the story already.

Everytime Oda off panel something there are questions
Thats literally the point of off-paneling something. To get the readers to ask questions. Thats what creates intrigue.

Roger sailed Grand Line for decades if I'm not mistaken. 13 + 1 year left, so 14 years at least are confirmed

I've noticed that I said in the past that Blackbeard might have already awakened Gura Gura no Mi. He shouted and the entire island was shaking !

Blackbeard will be the strongest Yonko and the scariest. Awakened Yami, Awakened Gura and possibly all advanced Hakis like Luffy.... He will probably destroy the world

Dragon Ball in a nutshell, they're all universe busters but the fights all look the same and they destroy mountains at worse

I'm in fu"king shock! Even after the fact that Roger's crew and WB's crew had equal fight for three days people still can't except that Rayleigh and Scopper were YC level, they are trying to find excuses like THEY WERE HOLDING BACK, IT WASN'T A SERIOUS FIGHT ETC. Like com on man I know that you wanna them to be stronger since there are part of Roger's crew but Roger himself wasn't that much far from the Yonkos since he didn't fight against Big Mom, his rival Wb became a Yonko after his death and was competing with other Yonkos etc. So Roger's right and left hands can't be that much far from YCs. Rayleigh didn't show enithing that would make him above YC like he fought with Kizaru for a brief moment and we didn't see the fight itself nor its ending in the same way how Marco fight against Kizaru and we didn't se the fight and the ending.

Reread the chapter, no reread the entire manga

Power scaling points I made out in this chapter:
  • Splitting the sky is not an indicator of strength since two pirates that are stronger than yonkou didn't split it.
  • Shanks doesn't have the strongest Haki in the series since he displayed a far weaker version of the Haki shield, whereas Whitebeard/Roger literally creates a space between their weapons.
  • Oden was easily overwhelmed by roger and quit the fight...the very same Oden that scarred Kaido 6 years later with possibly the help of poisoning.
  • Non-prime Marco, Vista, Jozu plus the commanders fought the Pirate Kings crew for 3 days equally, stated by the manga itself. 26 years later a stronger lineup was incapable of completely stopping Injured/restricted Akainu's rampage ( curiel was taken down).
  • Lastly, the fight between Roger pirates vs Whitebeard pirates didn't destroy an island far smaller than PH, while Akainu and Aokiji completely wrecked the landscape of PH and changed it's climate forever.
You took all this from a fight which was never serious? Obviously the Whitebeard Pirates walked away fine, they’re all friends. Not a single one of them was trying to kill anyone else.

The point about Shanks is clearly agenda driven, because you could just as easily denigrate Whitebeard becauae his blade was also in contact with Shanks’. He obviously wasn’t doing the same thing that he did with Roger, during a somewhat more serious fight.

Akainu vs Aokiji was a fight to the death that left one without a leg and massive scarring, and the other one with massive scarring as well. Trying to talk about strength in comparison to a fight that clearly wasn’t intended to be that way, given that the competitors were all friends and neither one of them was seriously hurt, is ridiculous. There was nothing that could be taken from this in terms of power scaling other than Roger and the Yonko (including Shanks, later) are just on a different level than anyone else (bar maybe Dragon), and that Oden was no match for that level of strength, all the way to his death. That’s it.

The power scaling gets pretty annoying tbh. There was nothing anyone could take from this other than what I listed.

I didn’t realize the bit about the two scenes with Whitebeard/Oden/Roger and Ace/Sabo/Luffy until later when someone pointed out on reddit, and then that became the best part of the chapter for me. It’s so much cooler when you consider the parallels between the people:

All Whitebeard ever wanted was a family and to know that he was loved, just like Ace.
Oden was nobility that felt trapped because he lived in a country with closed borders and there was no chance of leaving, and all he wanted to do was roam the world and see everything, just like Sabo.

And then Roger and Luffy, and their similarities...

Just a really cool line drawn between the six of them.

imagine being blackbeard on WB's ship. never sleeping a day in his life. always looking out at the sea and moon. plotting, scheming. until someone notices. people start to find you weird. imagine if he is lying on surgeons table and he just looks you dead in the eyes during the entire operation.
scary
Imagine being physically unable to sleep and owning a cabin next to Oden and Toki...
