Lol all the power level discussions are giving me a headache. 
5 years prior: Oden > Kaido (admitted by Kaido)
5 years later: Oden = Kaido
20 years later: Kaido (power grew significantly in that timeframe to where it currently is, which doesn't take away from his current level)
PS. I'm not defending Kaido, just viewing this objectively

So much for Kaidou grew in strength over the 5 years and reached Oden's level. 
Instead we learn that it had nothing to do with power levels but the support Oden was receiving from the people of Wano and his charisma. What next excuse are you going to bring up to push your narrative that Flashback Kaidou is incomparable to his current self?
25 years ago Kaidou seems ~ 20 years ago Kaidou. Looking at how it's going, 20 years ago Kaidou is probably also approximately equal to current Kaidou.

There really isn't much support for the narrative that Kaidou was weaker five years ago than at the current point in the flashback.
Furthermore, it isn't confirmed that Oden and Kaido fought evenly.
Vegapunk said Oden was winning, and a 4chan spoiler provider said they were evenly matched. This suggests that they simply interpreted Oden vs Kaido differently. At this point all that can be confirmed is that Oden was either winning or equally matching Kaido doing their fight (and not losing). Anything more concrete would have to wait for the actual chapter (and would probably still not be settled then with folks interpreting it differently). Regardless the narrative that Kaidou was somehow weaker than Oden 25 years ago, then grew to be on par with him 20 years ago and is now incomparably stronger is completely debunked. :holdthisl:

Probably not, because Oden was more focused and pissed off due to Kaido's influence on Wano. Although it's pretty much obvious that Oden = Rayleigh at this point, they already matched with each other perfectly for 3 days and now Oden has a better feat against someone like Kaido. It could be even Oden > Rayleigh.
Yonko Kaido > Rayleigh already, of course that wasn't Yonko Kaido, lmao.
Oden showed a better feat against Pre-Yonko Kaido, that's better than anything Rayleigh showed at this point.
No underling of an Admiral's or mihawk's can do this.

What hostage situation? It'd have to be somebody incredibly important to Oden, but even that would be tough to swallow. People were already suffering throughout the country due to the factories, and Oden would be a fool to think Kaido and Orochi would stick to their end of the bargain. And in the end, Oden still fought Kaido and Orochi. So whatever it was keeping him from acting out wasn't that much of a liability.
